Hi,
I have set up a netgear wireless router on my pc downstairs. Everything is running as it should as my pc upstairs is receiveing a solid internet connection from the router.
However, I can only access the NETGEAR configuration panel (192.168.1.1) on the pc which I set the netgear router up on. When I try and enter 192.168.1.1 on my pc upstairs, I can type a username and password in, but it is for the wrong router. I get the following message "The server 192.168.1.1 at Prestige 660R-61C requires a username and password". On the pc with the netgear router, it is the netgear model number which requires a password. I don't even have a prestige modem or router... I had to google it to find out what it was!
I need to know why it's doing this and how to fix it.

Your computer upstairs is connected to someone elses router.
check which router you are connected to.
Also, you never access a router's control panel through a wireless control panel, only through the one directly wired to it. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Hi again,
I am definately using the Netgear router and am accessing the internet through it, but the Prestige thing is actually the modem (only just realised as it's not my equipement). I have added the Netgear router to my house mate's modem so that I can have internet wirelessly. However, surely when I type 198.162.1.1 it should always take me to the Netgear router settings? It did when I first set it all up. Now when I type 198... I need a username and password for the modem. Why is it doing this and how can I regain access to the Netgear router? I am baffled. I did reset the router (the really small button...) at one point. So do you think I need to just reinstall the router?
Just in case that isn't the answer, how does one change which location 198.162.1.1 leads to? _________________ P4 2.8ghz OC @ 3ghz 800fsb

I meant 192.168.1.1 not 198.162.1.1 generally, what should the 198 lead to though? It comes up with some "level 15" request for username and password for me.
Someone please help me re the post above! _________________ P4 2.8ghz OC @ 3ghz 800fsb

Found out how to chabge the login through 192.168.1.1
http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm will bring up basic settings for wireless router and the username and password prompt. After entering in this info you can make changes to your basic settings.
