I am never helping out any game projects that are not my own again. I spend months working on something to help the guys out and all I get is abuse and groundless criticisim.
I found a bunch of guys making a free open source game and was really impressed by their home brew engine. So I asked them if they needed a 3d artist and sure enough they were happy to have me. Then after 6 months of working on stuff for them the "lead artist" starts giving me crap about how I'm not listening to what he's telling me and how all my work sux. MAN I pissed. I don't take that kind of crap from anyone, not even if I'm being paid and I'm not.
So, moral to story, never do anything for free for anyone who isn't friend or family.
