|
|
Hello – I’m building my first gaming system, which happens to be my first build period, and I was hoping I could get some feedback. My selected hardware (based on sharkyextreme.com's March Extreme Gaming PC Buyer's Guide) is below and I have a few questions:
1. Are there any incompatibilities?
2. Is there one component that is an obvious bottleneck or overkill?
3. Considering budget, should I stay with two graphics cards and the Core 2 Duo E6700 or should I go with one graphics card and get the Core 2 Extreme X6800?
4. Any other case fan recommendations that are 120mm, LED, and quiet?
Thank you in advance for all your input and feedback, it is greatly appreciated! Spike

looks like a kick-ass system. Only thing I would change is the power supply. I would suggest getting something a bit bigger with all the hardware, and something a bit better than thermaltake, such as Enermax, or PC power and cooling. Look for 1 kw, especially since you have a caud core, and 2 8800 GTX's. IMO 2 is a waste right now as there is going to be a refresh in december, You may want to go with one card for now, and then get 2 of the new ones later on. I love patriot memory, and everything else looks good. _________________ P4 3.2ghz

You'll be hard-pressed to find a better PSU for this application than the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W and 1200W. My third choice would probably be the Enermax Galaxy DXX 1000W and then the PCP&C offering (left to last only because of its high cost.) I, too would leave dual cards alone for now, but these power units will very likely supply enough power for the forseeable future, videocard-wise.
Otherwise, the system looks very good. I'm a cheapskate, so I would probably go with a lesser CPU and overclock to the required speeds, but that's just me.
At any rate, keep us informed and we're all here to help.
