I just moved to an appartment witha a terrible air conditioner. My cpu is an AMD and i hear they run hot. Does anyone have a good suggestion for cooling. Oh and i have a thermaltake kandalf case it worked great in my old place but it's hellishly hot in this place. I'd rather not burn this set up... i just built it

list the specs of your system please, we need to know what motherboard, etc. And please tell us the temperatures you are running at right now, including the temp in the apartment.

If the system is stock and not overclocked, I would just make sure all the fans and the heatsink is blown out with a can of compressed air.

Clean the whole computer inside that way.

asus p5n mb
2.8 amd 64 bit dual core
thermaltake 850 w psu
nvidia 7600 fanless video card
the kandalf case i mentioned earlier has 2 12cm fans and 2 9cm fans.
i don't think the temp in my place has gone below 78 degrees. my cpu idles at 38 degrees and the mb is at 35 degrees. i have the stock cpu fan on there now. i also bought a floor fan to blow in there, it helps a little...brings it down to what i said before.

it's not overclocked yet, how often should i clean it out?

Hold on there, 75 degrees and the 32 35 are different temperature measurements.

You should be fine. AMDs run cool and should be overheated if you are using them under stock conditions.

Blow the computer out with compressed air in a can every 6 months or less if you have a cat, smoke or the house is REALLY dirty.

Actually, I don't recommend using compressed air at all inside a computer, as most brands use a liquid propellant. The first few shots are fine, but as you continue to spray, a fine mist of liquid will cover the components...........not good at all.

You should be fine for cooling, 78 degrees is not all that hot, for ambient temps. Your current temps for CPU and mobo are within a tolerable range, no worries there. The Kandalf is a good cooling case, just keep your fans clean and you'll be fine. I'd just use a dry (or slightly damp) cloth to clean the fans off once in awhile, just keep an eye on them.

Canned compressed air is complete dry and is what I was referring to.

There is no liquid at all as I have used 100s of cans with no problems whatsoever and not one drop of moisture.

the propellant is only a liquid under pressure and is a gas at normal room temperature and pressure. Completely safe to use and zero water.

Yea, blow it out every 3 months and make sure your heatsink is clear of dust.

Smoke loves to collect there.

its not just the smoke though, its the tar, and everything else thats in the cigarettes, so it could get difficult to clean if left too long.
