My friend wants me to build him the computer he wants to spend no more than 1100 excluding monitor and mouse/keyboard. He has already picked out a case for $200. That leaves about $900 for everything else. I'm thinking a E6500 Core Duo CPU system. I'm not as familiar with the new mobos and am not sure what video card and mobo to get. I'm thinking DX 10; I've seen some cheaper ones, but they had poor reviews. I'll also need a 700 W power supply. Can someone give some suggestions especially for the mobo.

I know, but he wanted a nice case. I couldn't talk him out of it. I tried. He doesn't do anything special with the computer, so hopefully I can pull it off _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

When you say he doesn't do anything special with the computer, what does that mean? No gaming, overclocking or other system intrensive operations? If that's the case, then I would think an Allendale would be the way to go. A fairly good mobo P965 mobo can be had for less than $120. That brings the cost of CPU and board in at around $250 or less. Gigabyte and Biostar are two that I've had good luck with recently. Pick the features you need and see which board fits.
If you think you really need a 700W PSU, look at the FSP Group FX700-GLN. It's a high quality unit and relatively inexpensive. There are many others out there.
If this is not going to be a gamer, I'd leave DX10 alone for a while. I probably would anyway. |

Yes, by nothing special, I mean that no overclocking or heavy gaming. He likes to do some stuff with premiere. that's about it. _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |
