I just installed wireless N in my house. I have D-link DIR-655 router, and a DWA-552 wireless adapter. I cannot get it to run n speed. I am stuck at 54 megs a second. Anyone know how to change it to get to N. Also, I know wireless runs as fast as the slowest device. I have turned off the PS3 and wii, but still no luck, so far, this is the first computer with wireless.

the adapter in the computer. The router I dont think has a problem, but idk if there are any settings that have to be enabled for N or anything. I have no clue how to get wireless N running. I contacted D-link but no reply as of yet. Everything has latest firmware and drivers.

well..you need to make sure the router is set to run N. If its set to run mixed...it might default to B.

N is only a draft right now too...there is a possibility thats its not compatible with your devices yet....=\

N is supported by both the card and the router. It is advertised as "Extreme N" . I have tried setting the router to only send N, but it wont connect. The network is detected however.

go to device manager and open up your wireless N card. you can also right click your wireless connection in the network connections folder and then click configure. On the advanced tab there should be something like Link Speed and Duplex. Something where you can vary your speeds. Find out what its running at. It may be set as wireless G or B.

I somewhat figured it out. I have 300 mb\s right now, but I have no WEP of WPA enabled. When I set up connection, it defaults to wireless g and wont connect in N mode. I have not tried WEP 2 because not all my devices support it.

set up mac address filtering in your router. Its more secure than any of the shared keys because you can just allow computers based on mac adress. Then you will have security up and should be able to connect at N too.

actually i lied. MAC isnt as good as i previously though. Its not very hard to sniff out a MAC adress and there are cards that allow you to change your MAC adress so it wouldnt be very hard to clone. How likely do you think it is though that someone is going to sniff your house and decide to steal your files? Work for the government?

I actually figured it out. I changed the encryption to WPA 1 and 2 mixed, so now I can use both settings. I now have N on this computer and the wii and PS3 can both connect as well. It was in the manual wireless network setup
