I think my motherboard might be dying been having loads of strange problems including BSOD, random restarting, random shut downs and devices stop working all together.

Is it time for a new motherboard?

try reinstalling windows, and reset Cmos. Run memtest and try some diagnostic work before you replace it. check your PSU as well, and remove any OC you had if you did OC.

check for blown, rusted, swollen caps on the board, if none found then look at the rest. if there are some, replace the board

See if the Cmos battery is dying too. Some dude gave my brother-in-law an awesome motherboard with a huge processor for free because it didn't work. My bro-in-law replaced the battery and voila, perfect mobo.
