Hey Guys, this is just an update.

I thought I'd start a new thread in preparation for the pictures and grand unveiling of the new machine next week. Everything is in the UPS system, and scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

The build took a bit longer than expected because of a glitch - It was an update that alters directx and at least two of the security and general updates for .net framework 1.1 and service pack 2 making it tricky to install needed parts of SP1.

It apparently wants to be updated to Vista, which would open a can of worms I'm not ready to deal with, at least till the bugs are out, if that is even a possibility.

It's fine now after lots of little end arounds, but it is error free, and the whole package is working as it should, TG. I spent hours on the phone with my builder, going over every detail and option, an a few things were changed, but for the most part, it is as it was planned to be.

It'll be so good not to keep running out of virtual memory and watching my nails grow as i wait for the old Dell to download stuff.. It takes over 7 minutes just to get the email in the morning.

My routine when I'm first up is to hit the puter ON button, feed Tasha dog , make coffee, 2:55 in the MW to heat the water, then add the Taster's Choice & creamer with a splash of artificial sweetener, (no, not Nutrasweet.. Mad ) then back to the puter to watch the screen for another few minutes while it clanks around and bumps along, everything soooooo slooooowwwwwwww, ugh.. When I click on an email, it takes another 30 seconds just to open.

It sure will be a relief when the new baby gets here...I'll keep you guys posted....

256 mbs was bad, but not as bad as the one I had before that that my cousin gave me,,, a 128mb GATEWAY 2000, BARFFFFF! It was horrible. This Dell is so much better, if you can compare them..

I use Canon ArcSoftPhotostudio5, not Photoshop, and it wasn't too bad, just REALLLL SLOOOOOOOW with constant virtual memory warnings of dire consequences if I didn't delete a bunch of stuff, which I had to do a lot. Confused

Thanks Xal, it's been fun so far, lots of work piled up cause I knew it was coming soon,,, I left the old one alone for a week,,,

Good question, SOS, I wondered if anyone would ask.. Unlike my other desk which has no rack space, this problem required a comfortable solution. I put a padded barstool over to the left, and kick back with both feet propped up on the stool, and put the keyboard in my lap to type. It's actually quite relaxing, like a recliner of sorts.

I've gotten so used to it, I don't think about it, but would eventually like to get my old desk back to use this rack with,, No room for it now, it's kind of a squeeze in here. Can't complain tho, just glad the Dell is not the only option now.
