Hi all,

I recently bought a set of Altec Lansing VS4121 speakers (the one's Nate reviewed) and I was annoyed by the boomy bass and they've been making a hissing sound I haven't been able to get rid of yet (I've placed the sub 2 feet from my HD). I originally was using a pair of Yamaha YST-M50's I received as a gift awhile back but I had a gift certificate and felt I needed to buy something (I'm a sucker like that). I went to my local computer store that the gift certificates were for and bought myself the Lansings which I wasn't totally satisfied so I went back and bought a pair of Logitech X-230's for just $45 which I really liked but they had 2 problems: the wires were too short for my setup and the headphone volume couldn't be controlled by the speaker volume knob. At the moment, I have the VS4121's and the X-230's but plan to return the X-230's. I've been hearing very good things about the Logitech Z-2300 lately... People are saying that they are the best 2.1 speakers available. Now I'm debating if I should exchange my Altec Lansing VS4121 for the Z-2300's... The Z-2300's would cost me $100 more than the VS4121's, do you guys think it's worth it?

Side note: I hate gift certificates so much! As soon as I get them I want to get them off my hands so I go buy something I wasn't even thinking about getting (new computer speakers) and now its costing me all this time and energy to make an upgrade I didn't even know I needed! And going back to the store to look at other speakers I started to look at the new LCDs and now I feel I need one of those too (Okay fine, I have a 14" Compaq CRT at the moment so maybe it was time but still)
I hate marketing... and my weak resistance towards it.

Screw the speakers and get a decent monitor and at least get a 17 inch model.

Why are you thinking about speakers while using a 14 inch monitor?

All due respect but, that doesnt answer his question....although i agree....you'll be blind by 30.

...does anyone have any experience with these?

If not, tomato i would suggest reading as many consumer reviews as you can.....you should be able to come up with a bunch on google.

That is fine, but when I am looking out for him and giving him a better means to invest his money, I would think he would get FAR BETTER value from a new monitor than wasting it on a good set of speaker and squinting into a 20 year old monitor.

Whatever you choose to spend your money on is up to you. However, I do agree that you should worry about upgrading that monitor first.

Anyway, as for the 2300's. I LOVE them. I got a set for christmas two years ago and I could not be happier. By far the best computer speakers I (that means me personally, not every person in the world so please don't jump down my throat for this comment) have ever owned. Their bass is wonderfully loud but can be adjusted if you prefer a less thumpy sound. The only issue I really have with them is that they don't go to the fridge to get me a beer when I don't feel like getting up myself.

I own the Z-5300's which I believe is just the 5.1 setup of the 2300's (But they do look a bit updated, probably about the same though) and I agree with Zero, I love them so much. Bass sounds great, the highs sound great everything is just good all around. I'm sure you could get some more clarity out of the 5500's or with Klipsch high end, but for the money I'm sure that you will be satisfied.
