The sound plays perfectly in my friends computer except when:
A cd/dvd/cd-rom/dvd-rom starts spinning in the the DVD-ROM drive. for example, when in iTunes and importing a cd, the sound plays but does not play continuously. Same when I was installing Call of Duty 2 for him. the music plays in the background, but it was not playing continuously since the cd was in the drive spinning.
Could this be electrical interference or something? _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

Can you tell us more about what is happening.
You really didn't convey exactly what was occuring. _________________ Owner & Administrator

basically, you can hear the sound normally if a cd is not spinning. If music is playing (or any sound for that matter) from the speakers while a disk is spinning transferring data to the computer then the sound coming through the speakers is not heard continuously. the sound is not conveyed continuously through the speakers. It sounds like there is interference. _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

does it sound like its skipping?
If the music is playing from the CD....then when trying to read data from two different locations....the audio will skip.
If youre talking about playing music with iTunes...and also with another program, like installing software or anything else really....iTunes skips....its a resource hog, get used to it. _________________

no it happens in general. yes, it sounds like it's skipping. but it's not only in iTunes. _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

I don't think so. I can't remember.

what hes getting at is if both the hard drive and the cd rom drive are on the same ide channel, they might be overloading the board, sending to much info to it to handle smoothly. Open it up and if they are, move the cd drive to a secondary ide port. If they arnt, try disconnecting the sound line from the back of the cd drive to where it connects on the motherboard. it might just be giving your onboard sound problems.
I think that togglehead is right though. that would potentially cause problems. |
