hehe, you know, I watched a british serial called the IT crowd just after I finished writing this. Had me laughing for over an hour, a lot of what I mentioned in the article was in the series only in parody form

| Too many times people like this author fail to realize that the NUMBER 1 descriminatory practice is against seniors. Many of these seniors have years of experience but who are discounted when "techies" are hired. They make very reliable, peoply-savy, hardware savy, employees. |

Forgive me but I think you missed the point of the article, I was refering to people who take the job seriously being mistreated and under paid because of the people who don't take the work seriously, that applies even more so to seniors. Anyone over 40 who is still in the hardware field is obviously serious about the job  Its kind of sad really, as you say, the older more seasoned techs are often overlooked in favor of a young fresh out of school graduate.

| I totally agree with everything in the article. I am 88 years old and have been fooling with computers for 25 years. I have at least 5-6 calls every day for some advice about malfunctioning computers. I maintain several small company networks and I have virtually no problems with them. I only have problems when somone loads software that they should not in a business environment. I build about 4 new systems for myself and friends every year and can assemble one and have it on the internet in about 2-3 hours. I seem to have a lot of trouble with hardware being defective right out of the box, in other words, brand new. I have a 25% failure rate. I have asked around and found this to be about normal. Again, good reading, just a little more respect for the technician is all that is needed. |

| Sometimes I wish I weren't 88. But it is what it is. Came into this world in 1918. To give some idea of that time, the T-Model Ford was in its heyday. World War l was going on. Just turned 88 this month. Still quite active. Just bought another Travel Trailer this spring. Went camping 2 times this summer. Fool around with computers for more of a learning experience than anything else. Every time I sit down and turn one on I seem to learn something. You are never too old to learn. Friends bring me their old systems. I take all the useable components out to use in other systems. I have over 50 systems in my garage. Most of them are too old for practicle use but I rob parts from them from time to time. I have never charge anything for helping people with their computers. I get more from the experience than they do. Just remember, age is a state of mind, and if you don't mind, 88 is not that old. I feel like I am 50. Respect others, live clean, and nearly everyone will get there. |

I'm glad to see my article was read by such a broad age spectrum. My great uncle is 92 this year and is still writing novels and fixing his own car and computer. "Age brings wisdom and arthritis, you can take pills for the arthritis but the wisdom can be a bugger" he says

For sure, not saying that there is anything wrong with 88 at all, I just thought there was a slip of the finger when you typed in the number.
