I was reading some threads on LCD's. I know that LCD's can handle games these days. However I am not sure whether or not to get a widescreen or regular screen LCD. Is there anything I should know?

Frogger, something you should know: Games look amazing in widescreen.
It took me some time to adapt to the extra width of the screen in fps games, but now I cant look back.
I bought a dell 24 inch last year, amazing. And I only run a 6600GT. AoE III looks amazing.
I recommend a 22 inch min because of the sweet prices on them and probably among the best price/area. But if you can, jump to a 24 inch for the 600-700 dollar range... it's worth it. You'll have a little extra room more than full 1080 HD. And in my opinion, for 24 inch thats a good deal. Oh and you'll gain so much area to work in, it's amazing they still are selling 15 and 17 inch lcds. _________________ AMD Opteron 175

I like having a regular screen, sure you see more on the sides, but you loose some on top and bottom (from the game I saw, might not have been designed for widescreen) and thats where I normally get killed from... _________________ P4 3.2ghz

The game has to support widescreen, which most newer games do. Otherwise, yeah, you can get fragged from out of your monitor range.
If I had to pick a widescreen, my bet would be on the Dell 24" models. While I don't care for their computers, their monitors are definitely top-notch, and usually on sale. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

so what do you suggest? I play COD 2, I am big into flight simulator and also use it for photo editing, videos, and a whole bunch of other crap. _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

Dell 24 inch is always competetively priced and has the awful but needed HDCP DVI and componet inputs. Go with that. But otherwise, there are tons of good 24inch ones out there. _________________ AMD Opteron 175

I mean in terms of widescreen or regular screen LCD's?
I am scared a widescreen will mess up the look of games. _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

Frogger, go with me on this one... all things are moving widescreen. Any new game will support widescreen. MS is even trying to set a widescreen standard for vista, encouraging widescreen so they can tout it as the HD ready OS. Though that last one is meaningless, take the plunge and you wont regret it. _________________ AMD Opteron 175

Yup. My next monitor is likely to be a Dell 24", so I can agree there. Decent price, and consistently the highest ranked in its class. You can get one for $720 right now, which is a great deal. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
