Agreed, if the northbridge is really 52C somethings wrong. The bios might report this better also.
ATI's minimum recommended psu for the X1600 is 350w , which may explain why all the voltages seem to be low, including the vcore which should be 1.525 or 1.55 for that chip. Likewise, it could explain why the old memory might have shown bad if the vdimm went below 2.6V. The VS is an aftermarket memory that will run at 2.5V to satisfy OEM mobo's without any control of vdimm.
Even without the X1600 the psu is pretty nominal IMO. _________________ .

Im tending to agree with you FnF....although you may have a bunch of decent gear....its not really optimized for each component you have....
Look at this guys: Anyone see something wrong with this?
"Voltage Sensor(s)
CPU Voltage : 1.49V
Aux Voltage : 1.49V
+3.3V Voltage : 3.23V
+5V Voltage : 4.92V
+12V Voltage : 11.73V
-12V Voltage : -11.95V
-5V Voltage : -0.78V <-------HINT!!!!!!
Standby Voltage : 4.92V
Battery Voltage : 3.18V "
I would say your first step is getting a differnet PSU.....and second being getting a matching stick of ram to run dual channel. That right there should increase your performance
Try to get an accurate temp reading of your Northbridge....might need a thermometer for that....=D
and yes, the 8k L1 cache is correct...i think _________________

2old is right, those voltages are on the low side. Try a higher rated PSU (I would recommend borrowing one) and see if that solves the problem. Low voltage can wreak havok on your mobos power circuits and could also mean the mobo is drawing heavy current to compensate for the low voltage. Current = heat. I have a feeling that it may have dammaged your mobo already which would account for the slowdown. It would have run relatively normal for a while but then the heat would have started to dammage things. I'm with FnF in that the issue probably started when you replaced the PSU and case. If this is the case then my recomendation stands, get a desktop case, PSU and mobo and put your stuff in there. Space is the reason most people buy micro machines but IMO its not worth the headaches. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

We've pretty much established that I'm low on power, cramped on space, and pretty much left with the option of replacing my mobo and case. Thank you for working through this issue with me.
Does anyone have any specific product suggestions (case/mobo) that will allow me to keep my AGP video card, SATA-150 drive, and PC3200 184 pin DDR Ram and have enough juice to power everything? I'm willing to upgrade to a different proc if there aren't very many Socket 478 options out there. However, I'd ideally like to keep the processor if I can. |

I would look arround for a DFI LanParty 875p or an intel 875 based chipset Abit board. But if you are looking for longevity then you will need to go 64bit and probably dual core to be up to speed, especially with vista on its way. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

You may want to consider this model for a few dollars more. It is retail, which means 3 year warranty and it comes with a heatsink.

Also, might I suggest a nice Enermax or Seasonic power supply.
I'm sure you can beat BB's price on the VS memory, unless you know someone who works there or such. _________________ .

Pricing on the Corsair RAM.....
http://tweaknews.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=2462892/search=Corsair+PC3200
Saves you 12 bucks or so.
As far as a case goes, how much do you want to spend?
And, like 2old said, you'd be better off looking for a good case without a power supply, and getting a good, quality PSU that will give you more than adequate power. I wouldn't really be looking at anything less that 500w these days, if you ever plan on upgrading to next-gen gear, adding more drives and fans, etc. Stick with a high-quality unit, and you'll have no problems. Do a search here for posts on PSUs, there's alot of them..........and hit up the reviews section. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

You guys seem to have the product suggestions under control, but id just like to address something withincontext said.
I know you posted about a new cpu...which is good, but do you know why?
One of the biggest difference in chips at those times, was the FSB speed. Basically the faster the better. I got one of the northwood chips that had the HT or 800mhz FSB, and a buddy got a "faster chip" with the 533 FSB. My chip WAY out performed his, on basically the same system.
I like the direction youre going...keep it up and glad we could help! _________________

Ah, but for the tweaker lower fsb = higher multiplyer and hence more OC potential with less risk of dammaging the CPU I would love to get my hands on his 3.06, I had one a few years back and easily got iy to boot at 4.0 but being in Africa at the time and unable to get a good mobo and cooling solution I could only safely run it at 3.2 Those 533 fsb 3.06s rocked. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock
