Actually, Stevie's rig was way more than the guitar........it was the mix of amps, the blindingly heavy 14-gauge strings he used, 5 springs in the trem cavity, etc. You can't pick up a $300 Mexican Strat, plug it into a Marshall Valvestate and get that sound.

All true, but he also used Peavey heads (which in my opinion suck).

In terms of bang for the buck, heavy gauge strings will make any guitar sound miles better.

I used Med-Heavy Dean Markley's on my basic Epi Les Paul Standard and it sounded thicker and cleaner than the '58 Gibson Les Paul Custom our drummer at the time had.

Also, I don't know a single Strat player who didn't use 5 springs or didn't screw the rem down completely to add sustain. In my case, I actually used springs lifted from an Ibanez on my Mexy strat. Think on that one I replaced the bridge pickup with a 57 vintage. The other two were stock though. Sounded very pristene...though rather noisy...

And now this topic has strayed completely form the original discussion Razz

Kinda curious if that colors our judgement a bit concerning the games we play...So far there are four unifying threads among us all here it seems:

- We are all oldschool gamers, musicians, tech heads and car geeks

Hmmm.....I think I should send an email to psychosis lady so she can wrap her head around that one.

Maby there's a "G" or "N" gene floating around that causes this.

I am referring to this lady btw: http://www.twitchguru.com/2006/09/02/getting_to_grips_with_the_drug_culture_in_video_gaming/

Who knows, maybe games aren't as good because we're not all hopped up on goofballs....or maybe we are and everything just got more boring!!!!
