Hey,

I bought this Dell Ultrasharp 20.1" LCD Monitor. Is there any way to "un-block" the resolutions that it for some reason has blocked off in windows xp? I have a very small selection of resolutions and i can't play games at very high resolutions because of it

Did you install the Dell monitor drivers?

Yes, still giving me the same resolutions. I'm just assuming it is all that the monitor will do:

1680 X 1050
1280 X 1024
1280 X 960
1280 X 768
1280 X 720
1152 X 864
1024 X 768
800 X 600

is it a widescreen monitor? if not, those are the only ones that wil work, my 19" only goes up to 1280 X 1024, I dont think you need to go much higher than that for games... (eps when your have a 9800... newer games dont run too well at that res)

That isn't a small list of resolutions at all.

That is completely normal.

Also, you HAVE to use the highest resolution possible or the picture quality will be shot.

Yah it's not bad...but i was expecting there to be way better ones for when i'm playing games.

For instance, it won't do 1600 X 1200 and i don't think any of the games i play run 1680 X 1050

That monitor needs to be run at 1680 x 1050 for the best picture. Anything lower is interpolating, and can result in a very crappy image. LCD's are like CRT's.........most look like garbage at anything other than their native resolution.

For your gaming, many new games will run at widescreen resolutions. Check the forums for the game in particular, there's usually a simple tweak in the game files to enable widescreen.

If there's no tweak, just run the game in windowed mode (add a /w switch to the shortcut if the option isn't natively in the game).
