Hard drive just crapped out.
I eventually plan on building a completely new system (prolly w/in the next half a year), so I want to get SATA. I was looking at getting a pretty good replacement drive for this system, but just carrying it over to the new one when I build that. Because of this, I want the latest and greatest. However, I want to make sure that my old board will support the latest and greatest. I'm 97% sure it will, but I just want the ok from you guys, so I don't get into too much of a hurry and screw stuff up.
Here's my board:

Am I good to go for SATA 3.0Gb/s ?
Thank you very much!! _________________ 91K SIGNATURE IS NOT ALLOWED.

New SATA drives are fully backwards compatible.
Your older Asus board will only transfer at the original SATA speeds, of course, but the drive will work just fine. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

that's exactly what I thought.. but like I said, I just wanted to get the thumbs up before I dropped the money .
Any recommendations? I was just going to go w/a decent price on a 7.2k rpm WD... _________________ 91K SIGNATURE IS NOT ALLOWED.

I ***ALLLLMOST*** went w/the 750 GB Seagate with perpendicular recording.. but didn't. I took a look at the tomshardware review of it and the numbers were amazing.

I went w/the 320 GB Seagate w/PR. Was a LOT cheaper, and I should still get a pretty good feel for whether or not the technology is worth it. Ended up being $121 altogether... instead of $421 ;x

awesome... I just realized I bought the wrong one when I looked at my post.. ahahhaha
OHHHHHHHH me. Silly me.
Yeah.. so I called up newegg, they cancelled that one, and I replaced it w/a new order. Turns out the seagate one was $5 cheaper AND had free shipping!! So the new order is $10 cheaper! yay! I loves me some newegg!
Specs on it (for anyone interested):

I would have got the 150g Raptor. But that is just me. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Eh... this one performs RIGHT under a raptor (sometimes better), has over twice the space, a 5 year warranty, and is about a third of the price..... _________________ 91K SIGNATURE IS NOT ALLOWED.
