|
|
Hello fellow TweakedNews user!
My PSU plugs recently burned out and broke for my Sony Vaio PCV-420, and I'm having a really difficult time trying to find a replacement power supply unit for it. that's compatible. My currenlt PSU is:
Delta Electronics' Inc. Model: DPS-295AB A (Output = 295.4W MAX).
I have tried replacing this PSU with another company I believe called eUTech or something, that the repair/tech guy gave me, but it a message displays that The Fan is Abnormal, so there is a possibility that it could potentially damage my PC once again. So, I was wondering if you guys know of a PSU that can work with the 420 Vaio, and where I can purchase one (I live in Canada).
Your help is greatly appreciated! |

It's a special size ATX power supply made for the Sony Viao case, as I recall. You may have to contact Sony on this one, or find one on EBay. _________________ Asus P5WD2

| Well, I know that I could probably fit in bigger and more bulky PSU by simply pushing the drives further out. BUT, I keep got this "Abnormal" Fan message when attempting to use your standard PSU. So does this mean I have to get a "special ATX" one? |

I would think it's a fan monitor, probably looking for a power supply or another fan to monitor _________________ Asus P5WD2

I tried using Sony's eSupport, and it says it doesn't recommend I upgrade the PSU, cause it can damage it. However, I can't find the same PSU model, because Delta Electronics Inc. doesn't have the same model for sale...
But, what do you mean by fan monitor tabasco? |

I am guessing, but your original power supply was probably a big part of your case ventilation (air flow through your case) and there was probably a fan sensor off the old power supply, or you didn't connect one of the case fans.
Sony should be able to find a solution for you. It's their product. _________________ Asus P5WD2

True, however I think Sony's solution may be something resembling this:
"The psu is obsolete. You should really upgrade to a new Vaio. We'd be happy to help you choose the right one for your needs."
I don't know what your needs are, or your level of computer savvy. If I were you this is what I'd do. Search around the web and Ebay for a replacement PSU for the Vaio to get me by until I can save enough money to build myself a rig that matches my needs exactly, is easily upgradeable, and has no troublesome proprietary parts.
Most everyone here (with the notable exception of a recent Apple convert ) builds, tweaks thier own machine, and you'll have all this experience at your fingertips. As you've already discovered, you won't find this in the pre-built sector. JMO Good luck! |

Take it to an electronics engineer for repair if you can't find a replacement. Sony is a bugger when it comes to their "specialized stuff" Many people have had issues with their PSUs and most either end up buying a new machine or sending the PSU for repair.
