Help needed - boot failure

Hey guys,
I could use some help, and hopefully rather quick.

Have a m-atx setup here:

Amd 3800+ 393
x1600XT
400W northQ PSU
250Gb Spinpoint SATA
IDE DVD-RW

The story starts when I wanted to slow the two 120mm casefans down a bit, so I popped the connectors out of the standard molex conector and put the power in the 5v instead of the 12v as it usually is in. And then the - in the black one as usuall. When I started the computer I realised that the fans did not start, and I had to push start them. Too bad I thought and swithced it back to 12v as standard.
But when I boot now it gets to the screen whit the windows logo and the load seems to finish, but before I get the blue welcome screen it reboots.
I get healthy volt readings on the molex connectors from the PSU.
Anybody who may have some tips?

Please help! Hope I havent blewn anything here....

UPDATE:

Ok, seems that the problem had nothing to do with me fiddeling about.
After I tried using the recovery console to repair the boot sequense and run CHKDSK, I did a new install and now it works just fine.....

Still don't know what coused it...

Anyway ignore this topic and go back to your usuall dogging around....

Probbably happened while you had the fans on the 5 volt rail. The fans draw too many amps which would have made your 5 volt rail fluctuate. Sounds to me like you got some corruption from it.

Sorted now tho so just remember it for next time. ALWAYS use a voltage dial or resister on the 12v rail to slow fan speeds, its never good to overload the 5v.
