I built a computer over four years ago in 2001-2002, when the pentium 2.4ghz chips were outrageously high in price.
Anyhow, I never OC'ed, and I changed the BIOS a little ; all of a sudden when I reset my system, the monitor failed to get a signal and now the computer makes a continous 2.5-3 second long duration beeping sound . The beeping only stops when I change the power supply to the next higher mode of 230w... (Yes it's old...) The fans slow down and the beeping goes away, however, the monitor still gets no signal.
Am I crap out of luck...? .
I suppose my only real concern is to save the information on the hard drive, but the convenience to keep my old comp alive is high. |

| More info please. What mobo? What does "changed the BIOS a little" mean exactly? Did the computer waok at all after these changes? I wouldn't recommend switching the PSU between 230 and 120 again. Do you mean that the beeps are 2.5-3 seconds long and sound over and over, or is it one long continuous beep? |

I will check the Mobo tonight, I can't remember exacty what it is anymore. ":Changed the BIOS a little" actually means alot ! I changed the Voltage setting, Ram speed, ...pretty much anything that I was able to adjust to a faster speed or apply more power, I did just that.
No; the computer did not work at all immediately after I saved the changes and exited the Bios.
And yes; the beeps are 2.5-3 seconds long and do sound over and over again. Thanks mojo1340 for asking those questions, I simply forgot to give more relevant info.
sickofsoyo, yeah! I forgot all about that process... It really has been a while since I jacked up my Bios so hard. If only I can remember if I have a 2 or 3 pin... Oh well, I will do that tonight, Thanks Alot! |

Yeah man...lets hope you didnt do any damage!!!!
You cant just poke around in there....especially with your PCI speeds and VCore voltage....O.o _________________

That was close... I didn't damage anything so far, but I ended up jumpstarting the CMOS, so all is well.
Thanks Tweakers |
