Ok so im not exactly sure if this is hardware or software....but im leaning towards software.

I have Nero 7 Premium installed on both my work and home machine. If any of you remember what i do, you'll know burning CD's is essential for my job. For almost a year now i have noticed that the audio CD's i burn skip.....almost ALL of them.
Usually the skipping happens in the first 45 seconds of the first few tracks on the CD....but sometimes its artist dependant. Like a specific artist wont skip at all, no matter what CD i burn them to....and some ALWAYS do, no matter where they are on the CD. Inversely....some artists will skip if they are in the beginning of the disk, but not at the end.....
....so basically im lost.

The optical hardware at home and work is different.....but most other stuff is the same.....same chip, same RAM....etc....

At first i thought i was burning too fast.....nope.
Then maybe the file sample rate, or bitrate was too low....nope.
I burned a CD at 2X...still skipped.

This never happened with the last edition of nero.....but it didnt do it when i fist installed 7 either....it only started a while ago.....

Any ideas?

CD-Burners have a life of a certain amount of hours for burned content... I would suspect your CD-Burners are just getting old...

have you tried updating your software? prob a dumb question... I also have Nero 7 premium installed on my computer with a Sony CD-RW drive and DVD-Burner, and I have never had the problems you're describing. I would look for all the updates I could....

Have you tried using Nero 6 again and seeing if the problem continues there?

i have NOT tried nero 6....but i cant seem to find my copy of it either.....so that hinders that freshy.....

And no nathan im not....ive switched brands a few times, always going for higher quality each time, just to rule that out.

Im really thinking this is a software/driver related issue.....it must be something im doing wrong, since both these machines were built by me.....maybe im totlaly missing something.

I will try to find another burning software...as i think that has to be the problem....

Well dpending on your time limitations, I can give you a copy of Nero 6 that I have lying around.

Other than that, did you try updating all your optical drivers? Maybe the install didn't agree with the driver set. Who knows.. that's what keeps computers interesting, the stupidest things can be your solution.

I would try some different software, there are lots of free CD burners you can use.
