#1 Rule of a good computer....don't buy a Dell for gaming.

Would a 256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800 or 512MB ATI Radeon X1900 XTX do me any good.

Sounds pretty good and should really be a fast setup.

Tell us how it goes when you get it.

I'ld say forget the intel 800 or 900 series, they aren't that good in games (compared to other options)
Go for either AMD 64s or wait for the new intels that will be out shortly, both choices would be much much faster and run cooler.

Videocard is a pretty good choice,
As was mentioned DO NOT GET A DELL if you are planning to do any gaming.

My suggestion is to go to a local computer dealer, or order the parts online and build it yourself.

Ok thanks the sad part is as I said I don't know crap about computers so building one would be hard for me.

I have around 1,500-2,000 to spend and the closest place to me is a compusa wich is 50 miles away.

the alienware is pretty good (actually it's now owned by dell)
Might get a custom built one for less, but as far as specs are concerned the alienware looks very good
I wouldn't recommend taking the screen they provide, either get a CRT screen (the old big ones) or get a really good lcd with an 8 or better (lower) response time.
The CRT's typically give better color and the response time is not an issue. Also it looks good in all resolutions whereas the LCD(for a 17 or 19 in) is 1280x1024 only, other resolutions will look pixalated or simply will not work.
