so i bought a used WD 200gb drive...and im well aware that it might have died in transit.....

however.....BIOS sees it...then tells me "Pri Slave Failure, Hit F1 to continue."

cant see it in windows, or FDisk...

now what?

Because I often switch HDs for backing up, I often have the situation where the BIOS recognizes both drives but Windows does not recognize the Primary Slave.

However, if the BIOS says "failure", I'd make sure the cables and controller were OK. Otherwise, I think you might be out of luck.

Try hooking it up as master on your second channel and set the jumpers accordingly. If it still won't work try it in a different PC. If all that fails then it probably died Confused

well i had derived the drive was borked.....i plugged it in on one of my work machines, and the thing just clicked at me a lot......

so i get the notion......well its broken already...why not fix it....=D
i dissect the drive....clean things off....look around at it.....blow it out with air....reassemble it...and it works.....

...sorta

It only registers as an 18.60 GB drive....same as the used space on the Master drive on that IDE channel.....get me?

....odd....think its a fluke, and i shouldnt bother?
