I hooked up a new power supply today for my Sony VAIO PCV-RS 420 and when it loaded/booted up, a screen appeared telling me the power supply's fan is "Abnormal". The tech guy who just fixed my pc, said it can damage my motherboard and whole pc. What should I Do?

And what did he say was the solution and why isn't he dealing with it if it was his fault?

He said I should get a new one, cause not only did his replacement one have trobules fitting, but he said it may wreck it.

BUT, on further investigation... I called Sony and actually got through Shock
The guy told me it's normal woith Sonys to do so and that that message is because the the pc doesn't detect the Delta Electronics one. He told me tha his custom pc, displayed the same sort of message when he 1st installed it. It's lasted him 4 years, so I just ordered a new PSU, $43 (CAD) with 2 Fans, to prevent any burning.

ho HOOOO Sally....i finally saw someone about my condition....there can be only one!

scottmur74,
its often the fan sensors on board dont recognize the specific fan in your PSU.....

as long as you SEE the fan is working, i trust that more than a prompt telling me the fan doesnt work....

if its spinning fast....its working
=]

I went into the bios and turned the power supply monitor off and now it doesn't seem to say it anymore.

Thanks for the help.

I was a little nervous as this was my first attempt at computer building, although it wasn't really building I just switched my mobo and drives into a new case with a new power supply. But with no instructions with the case I was going blind, as seeing how it was a sony i was expecting nothing to fit.

My power fan doesn't seem to be spinning, what next? Do I need a new one or is it possible the connection may be loose? It's a Sony by the way, and I'm getting the 'Power Fan Abnormal' message.

Best to get a new PSU if you can. If the fan has stopped working the damage may already be done to the PSU. Best to be safe and replace it.
