hi.
recently discovered i might have a heat issue with my card.

when i played oblivion the temp went up to 82 celsius.
is 82 celsius dangerously high or safe ?

its a leadtek card with stock cooling, without any overclock it went up to 80celsius.
the fan works no doubt about it sounded like a 747 taking off inside my case when it reaches 80+ and thats how i discovered the heat issue.
so i have a couple of questions

1.
is 82 celsius alarmingly high or safe ?

2.
at which temperature does burnmarks start to occur ?

3.
what is the maximum operating temperature of the G70gt core ?

4.
the store claimed they can check if the card has been overclocked and even the specific frequency, is it true or not ?

before someone starts questioning the airflow in the case, its almost as good as it possibly can get.
the temp lowers 1celsius or less with the side off and a 150+cfm tablefan blowing into the case.

Regards
Raven

My 7800GT doesn't get over 45C, but I have an aftermarket cooler. I'd be alarmed if my card was running at 80+C. That can't be good for it. Are you experiencing any artifacting?

no artifacting whatsoever in oblivion but trying to figure out if i need to return it to the store or not.

the problem is leadtek says its fine under 90celsius but a couple of enduser has told me problems can occur much earlier than that.

It may be that the temp is not being reported properly. What are you using to monitor temps?

The nVidia utility for my card shows a "core slowdown threshold" of 115C!!
It should be good till that temp, but it seems very hot to me.

using the built in temp sensor.

115celsius is way to hot, hot enough to melt the plastic on the card.

normal casetemp is around 25celsius, at the moment its 28 but summerheat is here, room temp is 25celsius at the moment and as i wrote in my first post.
i have even tried with the side removed and a 150+cfm tablefan blowing into the case the rule out any ventilation problem.

iblivion is the first game i have that puts pressure on the card so i believe i had it all the time.
played gta vice city and other older games earlier without problem.

Make sure the cooler is making good contact with the GPU. Sometimes it can be "tilted" to one side a bit and not make flush contact with the core. If all is good there then try removing the cooler and CAREFULLY removing the thermal compound from the GPU and the cooler and replace it with a small bead (about the size of an uncooked grain of rice) of AS5 being carefull not to spread the compund on bare circuits (it conducts electricity). Put it back together carefully and see what your temps are like after that.

Agian BE CAREFUL, you can ruin your card if you get AS5 in the wrong place.
