Head unit upgrade

Did a little upgrading on the ol' system. I ordered a Kenwood MP5028 from Crutchfield for $129- so it was a good deal.

I now can play mp3, wma, and aac files so I can get all my real cd's out of my vehicle and out of sight from theives. It has an internal amp switch so I can turn off the head unit's onboard amp that I wouldn't be using anyway to decrease distortion at higher volumes. It has an auxillary input incase I want to plug in a mp3 player, laptop, dvd player, whatever. I put a 1/8" jack in the dash for easy access. It has a remote, which I had missed with my eclipse deck. Also, the outputs have high pass/low pass filters with selectable frequencies. This helped out alot as now I can turn off the filters on the amps and tune them exactly and know for sure where they are set.

ive never been a fan of Kenwoods sound, but in no way does that reflect its quality. They make a great unit. and looks like that one has all the creature comforts....=]

No doubt Sally.

It sure does rock! The 4v outputs helped decrease some static noise noticeable between tracks, and the midbass response with the new crossovers is much better. Helped really round out my system. Has more tweakability than the old one.

ToggleHead, I hear ya on the sound. Although it has a lot of improvements over my old Eclipse, it does sound a little different. Not quite as warm, or something like that. I only noticed it when playing a few classical numbers and some classic rock like Dire Straits- basically stuff I wouldn't choose to listen to normally, just good music for reference. But with my rock and hip-hop, it sounds just fine.

yeah a lot of what im talking about it really just a matter of preference.....im a bit of an audiophile, and im a sound guy for a living, so not only do i listen to a VARIETY of music....but i need it to sound dead on, everytime.....

...im slowly building my speaker systems around the new head unit im looking at buying....a while from now, as i have no money...=P

Now i just gotta ficgure out how to jam 6x9's in a 4x6 hole....and 5.25's in a 4x6 door spot....=P

why not take a small saw, or something and just make them 6x9...this is a tweak site, is it not?

well, what type of porsche is it? I would do it if it was a 944, parts are easily found for those...

You used to be able to get "extenders", which basically stuck a 6x9 mount on top of the existing smaller mount, raising them up an inch or so.......just enough so the bigger speakers would kindof sit inside the smaller holes......if you get what I mean.

For the front, you'd pretty much have to either cut the holes bigger, or use the kick-panel mounts Crutchfield sells. You'd probably have to modify them to fit, though.

the problem is, where all the panels sit.....i might have to cut holes in my rear panels to fit them...which i do NOT want to do......i want this system invisible.....

I'll start a new thread and post some picss for you guys to see what i mean....

SoS....yes it IS a 944.....however, no mater how easy it is to find Mechanical parts, interior stuff in good shape and the same color isnt as easy...not mention, NEITHER are cheap.....
