What would one go for, Tagan 480, one of those Enermax, Vantecs or Antecs or this Thermaltake PurePower 680???

Tough choice, I think I'd go for this one. Very stable, reputable maker, plenty of leads (like the Tagan), whopping 680Watts. All is good.

What do you think?

....and as always, very nice review!

Pass my congratulations onto Mr. Bones too!

SweeT RevieW Mojo

It's nice to see power supplies coming from the factory fully sleeved
I have done it myself twice, and it still takes about 5 hours
UV reactive on all sleeves would be nice tho.

Looks Like A WINNER

Keep up the Great Work

I told him, but Mr. Bones dosen't say much. He just nods a lot!

After using this PSU, I can highly reccommend the Tt 680W to anyone building a high end system with the latest components. Everything you need is there, in spades and, as Ham mentioned, the hard work (sleeving) is done. This is a really nice unit.

Hey all

I bought this power supply a little while ago but I'm havnig problems...with noise.

The rest of my system is reasonably quiet and has good cooling (plenty of airflow) so I noticed that the noise went up a lot when I put this psu in. Its whiney and horrible.

I have a feeling that the fans are both running at full speed for some reason even though they're supposed to be temp sensitive. I also noticed that in the review there was a fan connector coming out with the cable bundle, mine doesn't have this. could it be the root of my problems?

I've got no problems with opening it up if you think that's what I need to do so please fire away with the suggestions

Oh and by the way, I love the rest of the psu. The finish is soooo nice and my voltages have all been rock solid since I put it in so I can now get better overclocks.

thanks in advance

I've got the smaller 480 and 420, and have been extremely happy with the stability of the powersupply, was looking for something to replace the 480 though because it just won't be enough with the watercooling and vapochill unit i've got coming in... Didn't know that thermaltake had come out with one... so now i know :)

I would contact the retailer you got it from. The one I tested is very quiet.

and since he bought it a little while ago it maybe an early model and not the same as the one reviewed. As Mojo said call the retailer and you might be able to exchange it for a new one.

Sounds like a defective fan.

Happens to all manufacturer and models from time to time.

hmmm I took it apart last night and found that taking the fan grills off made the whiney noise disappear so maybe a bur on the metal was doing some strange s*** to the airflow. they still sound like they're running at full speed . I also noticed that both fans are 2 pin sunon fans that are attatched to a circuit board with a temp sensor on it. maybe the fault is with the circuit board and not the fans? anyway I'll probably end up taking it back to where I bought it and getting a replaacement if I can't fix it somehow (it's kinda fun and gratifying to make things work yourself if they're not doing what they're supposed to)

I was looking over the review today and I noticed that the +12v rail is of low amperage. Even though there are three dedicated rails they are all rather low. This troubles me especially if I were using it for a high end P4 system and trying to run a high end video card. As the total available amps of this psu is 38. Where as other quality psu's have that on one rail. And they usually have another 12v rail with close to that same rating.

Of course they have that on one rail because they only have one in most examples.

They decided to split that over three rails for more flexibility.
