You DO realize your Mac probably can't handle Panther. With Mac, a new OS almost always means a new Mac..........unlike a PC, where you can just drop in another stick of RAM or a faster proc.

It would be helpful if you said what problems you were having, though.

I'm fairly certain that it's doable, just strongly not recommended, in fact it's not even supposed to be doable
it requires an insane amount of work, most likely another mac, or some way of accessing the bios (in whatever form it may be on that mac) I remember on mine i had to use another mac to serial talk into the bios and do bios changes through a remote consol.

Might be less dificult to just install linux on it. probably get better performance as well
