| Adam Hughes wrote: | Greetings everyone,
I wanted to take a few minutes to update you on the projected schedule for switching over, permanently, from the old NAS to the new NAS. Library and target preparation is progressing well, and we plan to have the new tasks loaded on the new NAS by April 3 (more details later on the nature of the targets and libraries). We will then unplug the old NAS and replace it with the new NAS. At this point, the first phase (call it Phase I) of the project will be completed, and we will be starting fresh. All stats from Phase I will be saved and available in a static format, and a Hall of Fame will be formed from the top producers. The project stats will then be reset.
With this in mind, you need to be sure to upload any cached results you have by April 2 to ensure that your stats and the results themselves are saved and counted. Remember, Phase II starts on April 3, so Phase I results turned over after that date won’t count toward your new stats.
If anything happens to affect the planned schedule, I’ll announce it immediately. In the meantime, let me know if you have questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Adam

and also about the Hall of Fame.
| Adam Hughes wrote: | I have resurrected the old stats, in part, and created an All-Time Leaders section of the stats web page that will become the Hall of Fame in a month or so. These stats represent the old stats plus the new stats through yesterday morning. The pages aren't beautiful at this point, but it contains the basic information, and I'll make it prettier as time allows.
Note that these are static pages, and won't be updated automatically. I will update them occasionally between now and April, and then they will be frozen forever. Also, right now we're just displaying the top 100 nodes, members, and teams, and I plan to add a few options regarding how many you can view (500, 1000, all, etc.). I do not plan to make it possible to pick a particular number of records to view, however.
You can access the new pages from the "Hall of Fame" link on the stats pages, or directly at
http://app.d2ol.com/stats/hof.htm. |
So, everyone on April 2nd make sure you dump your buffers and get ready for a new phase. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Yep...I'm keeping an eye on this...I wonder how Adam is going to discriminate phase I stats from Phase II stats at the time of the switch? Will we need to dump our queue? Will the software go through a minor rev? Stuff like that.
Meanwhile...I will try and get my name up the hall of fame list a few notches before it becomes "finalized." _________________ .

Update bumpity bumpity
| Adam Hughes wrote: | Hi everyone,
I just wanted to remind you that Phase II of the D2OL Project begins on Monday, April 3. At that time, the new structure NAS will replace the old one, and we will begin working on the new Avian Flu target using our new candidate drug libraries. After a break-in period during which we make sure things are running smoothly, I'll begin to re-introduce our existing targets, also running against the new drug libraries. Once again, it is important to TURN OVER ALL OUTSTANDING RESULTS by the end of April 2.
In preparation for the switchover, I have temporarily overridden the maximum queue size for users to 500 tasks. This is done completely on the server side, and it simply prevents the server from handing out more than 500 tasks to any user at any one time. The purpose of this move is to reduce the number of outstanding tasks as we approach the switchover date so that the results/stats servers don't get completely swamped on that last weekend. I anticipate further lowering the queue size to around 100 this coming weekend, and then to something close to zero during the final weekend. April 1-2 should be used to finish any remaining tasks and make sure the results are uploaded.
Thanks for your continued support!
Adam |
I think that answers my question. Max Queue is already @500. _________________ .

| Adam Hughs wrote: | As part of the switchover to Phase II of this project, I plan to deploy a slightly updated statics server aimed at better aligning the statistics credited to a node ( or a member or a team) with the tasks actually assigned to that node. This change consists of two parts as follows:
1) When a task is assigned to a node, a database entry will be made that will uniquely identify the task as belonging to that node.
2) When the statistics processor runs to update node statistics, an attempt will be made to retrieve the assigned task from the database. If the task is found, the node will be credited accordingly, and THE ASSIGNED TASK WILL BE DELETED from the database. If the task is not found, the node will not be credited.
As you can see, submitting copies of the same results over and over will no longer result in accumulated statistics. There will now be a one-to-one relation between assigned tasks and the set of results credited to a node. Note that if your node happens to be assigned the same task at a later time (a valid situation), a new database entry will be created, and the node will be credited once for completing the new instance of the task.
This update will also form the basis of possible future changes.
Thanks, and let me know if you have questions or concerns. |
As you can all see, they are cleaning things up a bit, and taking care of business. Should make it tougher for any ppl tempted to cheat the system.
| kb9skw wrote: | If you have not already noticed, the default queue size has been temporarily overridden to 100. Adam has reduced the number to 0 on Friday the 31st. Over the weekend you will need to finish any remaining work and send it in.
As of April 3rd the new TaskService NAS will be brought online and it will no longer accept results from the old NAS.
|
Okay....it's all winding down. I've been watching my queue's go down in size automatically, as they should. I also have put a concerted effort in getting my queue cleaned out of my main machine, that does not run 100% of the time. The way they have it set up, we will have 48 hours to do the work on 100 candidates. This should be plenty of time for any p3 or later full time compy to clean out it's queue. If anyone has a part time machine or a p2, I would set my queue down to 20 or 25 now. Any work not completed by April 3rd will be lost since it will not have been tagged by the new task service.
So Sunday April 2nd will prolly be a non-productive day for most all of our machines. This presents an excellent opportunity for Team TN to "re-compose" itself if we so desire. Likewise, any unused nodes can be cleaned up without loss of stats after the switchover.
Weaz and I have previously discussed restarting the team anew, and this is the best time to do so.

Yes, on that day I will start a complete new team for TN. The producing members are asked to join with this new team. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Tomorrow's the big day. I'm working the last of my candidates down and will purge the remainder (if there are any) at bedtime tonight. I'll get a fresh start in the morning. I assume they prolly weren't to specific on the time so everybody wouldn't be rushing the servers for work, just let the machines pick them up whenever they got around to it automatically.
Also in the morning, once we are up and going, I will join the new team. I assume Weaz will name it Tweaknews.net. (dropping the tweakers part)
At that time I would remove any unused nodes if I had them, too.
See any problems in this process Weaz? _________________ .

Count me in, I had taken my machine down since I have been having some problems with it. I am reformatting this week and will be up and running fulltime again. As long as it doesn't interfere with my World of Warcraft, I'll be a 24/7 contributor again. _________________ "....Or as almost every word in a sentence; Tweak the tweaking tweakers!"

I'm on the new team and cut some dead weight- deleted old non-contributing nodes. Only problem so far is that my nodes on my dual-core machine still have a few hundred old units on them that just won't flush. I've tried everything and they are still there. Might just have to wait a few days till they get crunched out of the system. _________________ •Asus P5K SE •Q6700 •4GB G.Skill •BFG 512MB GeForce 8800GT

Check out the d2ol forum. Someone else had that problem. You can always save your node.prp file and uninstall the program and delete the folder, then re-install.
Our new team already looks lean and mean. _________________ .

Flushing DOES work when I double click the TSC tray icon to open the main app, hit the status button then flush and manual update.
Hopefully this will help others who have had the same problem trying to get rid of Phase I tasks. |

I uninstalled and reinstalled which started me out fresh. However, I copied and pasted my node.prp before registering and still ended up with 2 different node #'s on this machine. Oh well, at least they work. _________________ •Asus P5K SE •Q6700 •4GB G.Skill •BFG 512MB GeForce 8800GT

Thank you for the link, 2o.
I have noticed that I had to flush all tasks a couple times on at least one machine. But I think everything is running 100% now.
This is a sad day. Since the restart of the project Fitz is not going to join us. I am not sure if this is a permanent thing or just for the time being. I guess only time will tell. Let's all wish him well and hope that everything works out.
Now to the others out there that want to join us. COME ON DOWN! We need your support too. But please be serious about this and keep the output going.

I will join the team as soon as I can, just dunno when yet.
I had over a thousand cands to upload of my old nodes, but they would not upload, so they never made it to the final stats.
Oh well, I hope to be crunching numbers again soon.

It will be good to have you back among us.
But for right now the stats are down. Theyshould have more info, later today, on when they will be back. It will be interesting to see what happens when they do come back. I think I have all of my machines at to 100% now with queues set at 500. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Yes, it will be good to have you back All serious crunchers are welcome and appreciated.
I hope they get the stats servers back up. It makes it difficult to judge how I'm doing, since I have a machine in the process of leaving the herd. I'm trying to supplement my numbers with part time machines until the replacement is in place. _________________ .
