you did the manual reset with the unit ON?

Yup. I'm a rebel

And I have been trying to access the settings through a wired connection. Currently I'm connected to it wired and it gives me the internet (that is how I'm making this post.) I have since reset it with the power OFF, but I still can't access the settings. No settings. No wireless. I don't think I hosed it after I first reset it with the power on because the wireless still worked and I later accessed the settings. So some other way it stopped doing what it should be doing. To be honest, I don't know what I did and it makes me sad . and crap, mad too

P.S. Am I crazy for resetting it while it was still plugged in? One more question, I will be doing some online gaming like WoW, is there a different, better, and more expensive router that I should be getting to make sure it doesn't lag when other pc's are using the internet? Or will a basic one do fine?

Hey frigid.
I hope you got the bugs all workied out of your system by now.
But if not id like to give you some of of my thoughts on your speed issue.
First of all... the guys are right - Norton and mcaffee are garbage for the most part.
They hog precious system resources- run all kinds of hidden background processes. To top it all of they arent that great. As the guys suggested a good A/v proggy would be Avg or something of that nature.
I heard panda titanium 06 is supposed to be pretty good. I have never used it though so dont hold it against me if it sucks lol.
nehow...also a lot of these a/v software proggys limit or restrict info packets depending on the packet nature. So depending on what type of A/v software you have and Software firewall(s) you have ( sygate or black ice for example) you may notice decreased speeds and performance of both the internet and your p.c. -(there are exceptions to the rule) But from my experience this seems to be the case.
Next point -your router. Did you say you changed the i.p of the router? Did you do that through windows tcp/ip settings? or through the firmware on the router.? If you assigned a static setting you can either refresh Tcp/ip - see later part of artice or you can try ctreting a new connection - Start then go to Run then type inetwiz - then choose the appropiate selections.
If the router firmware is messed up you can try runing the cd and plugging in all the settings specified by your isp like dhcp and static/dynamic and if they specify blocking old or unused udp ports or whatever they want you to do.

If that dosent work you can visit the manufacturers website and download the latest version of the firmware and flash/update it.- Again depending on the maunfacturer of the hardware this may or may not be possible.

Back to the the router.
i will always point my elbow at the switch, access point or the router first.
if you are using a hub- ditch it .
Although most techies refuse to believe that the router is the problem lol.
The router itself is often responsible for packet loss from the modem.
Unplug the modem from the router.
Plug direct to the Nic. bring up the Cmd prompt. _ start run (cmd) in the run box.
type ipconfig/all
this will give you the i.p that your isp gives you and default gateway and other info. All those speed tests on websites are inaccurate- they give you an indication but not an accurate reading - because of #1- the distance between you and that server . #2 the amount of people currently downloading and pinging that server. and the amount of bandwith that that server has. plus you are relying on that servers Isp to give you an echo response packet. lol blah - neways

back at the Cmd prompt. Take a name of a common web page.
For example google. type nslookup www.google.com
then it will give you the ip's of a few google servers.
Pick one then type /ping 74.14.207.19
that will issue an return or echo request packet.
you should see a response of less then 40 Ms and u should get 4 responses. If I remember correctly.
You can try doing a trace route to see where the faults are in the network.
/tracert www.google.com- see how many hops it takes for it to run its course.

The only other thing I can suggest is to ask if you have reformatted recently.
And if you have installed all the northbridge/southbridge drivers on the mobo as well as installed the Nic drivers for the wireless cards.
Outside of reinstalling the stack you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Nic itself through the device manager and reboot the - this refreshes the tcp/ip stack-

last but not least in the cmd prompt - try a release/renew and a flush.
/ipconfig release
/ipconfig renew
/ipconfig flush dns
/ipconfig register dns

Other then that all i can think of is maybe the router it the Nic itself.
It will always show good signal strength because of the carrier wave.
But that dosent mean there is good data flow.

i hope this helped you out a bit- now i need a coffee lol.
Good luck
Cheers
