|

Hi
Recently bought (not received yet tho) the m-audio LX4 5.1 speaker set.
The connections on my soundcard (Revo 5.1) are 1 for the front left/right, 1 for the side left/right and 1 for the centre/sub.Of course i know i need 2 x 3.5mm jacks to phonos or 6.2mm mono jacks for the front l/r and side l/r.But what about the centre/sub? Do i get the same lead? ie 1 x 3.5 mm jack to 2 phonos (or mono 6.2 mm jacks whichever i prefer).im just a little confused by the centre/sub lead thats coming from the soundcard and fits into the back of the sub .If i get phonos does it matter which way i put the white or red lead ie in the centre or lfe (i know i need a phono to jack converter if i go for phonos).
Sorry its been so long winded.

Yes, you get the same cables. On the back of the sub you have six connections:
Top row is Left front, Left rear, Center. Bottom row is Right front, Right rear, LFE (or sub). _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Oh, and what you need from your soundcard to the sub for cables.......
3 cables, each with a stereo 1/8" plug on one end, and two mono 1/4" plugs on the other end. Try to minimize connections as much as possible, to prevent any hum or external noise.
(that's one 3.5mm stereo plug to two 6.2mm mono plugs, for you metric folks) _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Thanks fussnfeathers.
Again on the soundcard front.......I went for the Revo 5.1 because the THD looked better 0.00185% compared to the 0.003% on the 7.1..the dynamic range was the same yet the signal to noise ratio was better on the 5.1(im assuming higher is better?)Would i be able to tell THAT much difference between these 2 cards?Sorry for asking sooooooo many questions
Thanks again

Probably not. A couple of points of SNR isn't critical for a home-theater type setup. What you're more concerned about is the dynamic range and sampling rates. The .002% THD won't even be noticable.
Just bear in mind that the LX's are extremely clear, and very responsive. A low-quality MP3 will sound.........well, low quality. They're true studio monitors (not home speakers labeled as "studio monitors") so they're extremely accurate. Just warning you, so you don't play a 5 year old, 128 kbs copy of a Metallica song and start thinking the soundcard or speakers are bad. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Hi
Thanks again for the reply.
Received my speakers today..havent had chance to hook them up yet but just looking at them out of the box they look extremely well made.Bought my 3 leads for the full 5.1 set.Just a quick question....if i want to just listen as a 2.1 set which lead would i buy for just connecting the sub? A 3.5mm stereo jack to a 6.3 mm stereo or mono jack?If its a mono jack could i use the one i have for the full 5.1 and obviously just put the one of the two jacks in?Also how can i tell if ive bought balanced or unbalanced jacks?Ooops thats more than one question..sorry
