|
|
Hey guys, there something we need to watch out for, seems there is some other fault now possibly with some of the data send with the last active update. I know of at least one other report from a reliable person on the d2ol forums.
The node will say that there is a WAY higher number of cands ready to upload that is physically possible for the computer to produce. I just uploaded 5mins ago and already I have 69 showing ready to update, yet there is only 4 down on the assinged task list. Before that I had 70+ showing as ready to upload and the node had only been running for 20 min!!. 4 tasks > 69 to upload, something is NOT going well.
I noticed some odd numbers 2 days ago, but it seemed to fix it's self, so I just put it down to a few bad work units.
I'm begining to feel that this project is completly borked!.
Still, on the bright side, I'm looking to have one HELL of an upload for todays results !
I'm hoping this is not going to screw up the science results, there are going to a LOT of people sending in bad data without knowing it.
Maybe we *should* start to check out some of the other DC projects, I'm sure we could find something worth-while that has scientific value. I'm not so sure if the D2OL project is going to be able to recover anytime soon.

What you are experiencing is an unstable computer. My Pentium 2's would do that very same thing if they had been running too long and would have like 2000 to upload when they should only have a 100 max. They "upload" all 2000 but only the good ones actually count. It's not D2OL that has the problem it's just your computer.
Don't worry I do have my eyes out for another project if D2OL does get its poop in a group. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Unstable computer?.....Hmmmm thats worrying, This machine is currently at stock settings, this machine can overclock and be stable, but the RAM is MEGA cheap and I have to slow it down to 170FSB to OC the CPU. Thats why I re-booted the comp to drop it back to stock settings.. could be win 2K is getting too long in the tooth I supose, might be time to do a clean install (if I can find were I put the damn disks ).
Might have look at the BIOS in case I missed something in there.
The latest update on the project is that we should be getting some new work, soon as the structures NAS finishes rebuilding the RAID aray (dead disk during the restart). So things might be sorting themselves out soon enough.

jee... I dont know what they do with the info... I mean I know we do it for a good reason... but I havent crunched due to lack of input on certain stuff. I want to hear how some kids PII 64mb machine crunched the cure for aids. I mean with all this computer power.... it shouldnt take too long right? _________________ Remember When Sex was safer than racing???

Yeah, I've been getting that error all day, and for a little while d2ol.com took me straight to the childhooddiseases.org website. I wonder what broke THIS time?

Actually I know a little about scientific reasearch, results often take a LONG time to make it out of the lab, typically 3-5+ years for just for testing of medical type stuff, nevermind trying to produce the drugs (chemistry / biochemisty) and the research needed about what they are trying to do /make/ how it works (mediacal biology / biochemistry) etc. There are a number of steps and testing that need to be performed before a paper is published with results.
But, yeah it would be nice if they could say "hey check this out we / you found something that *could* lead to a cure to blah, blah, blah" it would be nice to find out that we have helped create *something*, *ANYTHING*. I think this might be taken care of soon, now that the guys running the project know that people want to know about this stuff and how they are helping
When the d2ol forums come back up, you should make that your first post there!

Hmmm...Let's see...it took 5 days for them to get the task download server back up, and it's important to the work process. So.....I say 7 days...who wants the over/ under? _________________ .
