ok so for all of you who followed me and my issues with my PSU and OCz memory, ive been testing and benching for the last 5 days and nights, and im almost done, im working on a comprehensive excel sheet to show me the absolute best playable settings and ive come up with the following so far, heres what im running:

System:
Thermaltake pure power 680watts
Amd Athlon 64 3000+ Stock air cooling
DFI lan party nf4 SLI-DR
2x512mb OCZ pc5000 dfi nf4 special edition platinum EL
XFX GeForce 7800 GT Extreme Edition
SATA Raptor36 gig
SATA WD Caviar SE 16mb cache 250 gig
SATA plextor DVD +/- R/RW DL CD R/RW PX-716SA

heres the things ive noticed from testing.
1)LDT/FSB frequency ratio plays HUGE part in OC and stability, leaving on auto just doesnt cut it. it was the reson i had issues with my memory for most the part.
2) building the memory controller into the CPU was an amazing IDEA, im letting the ram run in a divider at like DDR435 speed with 2-2-2-5 timings, but because the CPU is Overclocked i get better performance with tight timings then i could ever achieve with just maxing memory bandwidth. memory controller on die = awesome idea.
3)its important to keep in mind that the LDT/HTT of the A64 loves to be around 2000Mt/s

and heres my final configuration, NOTE* i have yet to even touch the VGA settings so my scores will get better. and i have excel sheets to back up all this data, but in terms of CPU and memory this is the most stable, fastest performing setup.

ok so heres the config for stock, going for memory bandwidth, and for the overall best performing setup (the grey line is the best one):

you'll note if you dare that when Nv Tested the memory, it perform better at tighter timings with high CPU clock than with loose timings and sheer open bandwidth. soon ill include the scores and such with the VGA OC.

yah, the results from just OC the cpu and running tight memory are quite evident, and stock GPU, im able to play need for speed most wanted 1600x1200 max world detail, everything on high, 8AA 16AF. i also tested half life 2, and i never fall below 160FPS running 1600x1200 MAX everything and full AA and AF im thinking of buying doom 3 just to whoop its A$$ in settings..lol imagine the scores after OC the GPU? :O

dude... thanks for the insight on the Athlon 64 o/cing... didnt quite get all of it before, but now i got a better handle on it. i do intend on switching over whenever i get the money to do that. you certainly did do your hw, and i learned from it hehe so you think that the same hints/tips applies to x2's as well?

btw, what kinda temps are you getting w/ stock cooling?

honostly i cant say for sure, i would imagine so but you may expeirence unforseen trouble, the X2's are pretty solid i think, keep in mind i paid 150 bucks for my proc... LOL and look at the scores im gettin, i donno man congrats on moving to AMD, thanks for the ocmpliments, and about overclocking AMD's, the LDT bus speed doesnt make a huge difference in speed, only in stability, you never wanna go over 2200MT/s, EX:

FSB = 220 x CPU multi 9 = 1980Mhz
but! FSB 220 x LDT multi (when left on auto) 5 = 1100, how ever since there is 1100 up and 1100 down, its really 2200 MT/s so thats pushing it, and ull need to up the LDT voltages, if you want to email me your email address to archaeic_bloke@hotmail.com i can send you the FULL excell sheet i did, its fully finished now and it has max temps, all the voltages, all the timimngs, eveyrhting u need, let me know. oh yAH., DONT EVER USE HALF MULTIPLIERS, my god.. dont ever go like FSB = 200 x 8.5 CPU multi, or LDT multi, its just horrendous disators. annd one last thing, make sur eu back up anything you dont want to lose when oc'ing, im actually gonna be re-installing my windows right now because of severe damage that was cuase to floppy topply windows xp. lol its pretty funny, i get a lot of the nice error messages now like "program must close for unexplained reason" and such, so maybe use a spare HD? i donno, any ways email me, that goes for anyone who wants the excel sheet
