I told him yeah sure. what do you guys think? good chip? I already like it cause it was FREE! lol but what a good board and a chipset that will pair up with it really well? thank you all so much and Im sorry this is my first post in soo long! _________________ +!~Budweiser~!+ Spelt forwards and backwards

Sweet...would of been sweeter if he would have gotten a presler core for you.
You really want a 945 or 955 chipset to go with it. The best mobo IMO would be the Asus P5WD2...mine has run flawlessly so far, and I don't think I'm alone in that opinion.
You will also want some good quality DDR2 memory, and carefully consider your case's airflow, since that chip needs to get rid of like 90 watts. As always, a good quality PSU should be used. _________________ .

it looks like 2o has about everything covered.
And yes my choice would be the Asus board. But if you can wait a few weeks the new 975 chipset boards should be out. I believe the Asus model of that will be the P5WD2-E. Which will also feature 8-phase power regulation, a feature that will help the cpu run a few degrees cooler and more stable. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

That's correct P5DW2-E, the 975X chipset as well as the 9xx CPU's (presler) should be out next week. The new presler based EE later next month. _________________ .

Don't know...
I read somewhere the EE a couple weeks later. The 975 chips should've been in the hands of the OEMs already, if they are going to have mobo's ready for next weeks launch. As we know, one ain't fo shizzle without the other. _________________ .

Check the News page, there's at least three articles on the new chip/chipset posted there. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

ok so i need a little schooling here. So is this chip that I have an "EE" extreme edition? and are all LGA775 sockets only for the EE? ive always been an AMD guy my self but im thinking that I might really like this set up if I do it right. And about the chipset im seeing that ASUS does have a socket 775 mobo with the 975x chip set. this would be the best board for my chip right? also this board supports DDR2 memory what memory would you guys recommend? also the board says that it has Dual-Core CPU what is that? here is the link for the board im looking at thank you all for your help.

LOL one more question ASUS is offering 2 kind of mobos with that chip set on with SLI and one with out it? they are both the same price so is it worth it to get the SLI i even though I wont have 2 cards right now. So what im asking is can you have an SLI board and only run 1 video card in it? _________________ +!~Budweiser~!+ Spelt forwards and backwards

Yes, EE means Extreme Edition, and yes, they're all LGA-775.
For memory, I would probably suggest Corsair XMS2, it's the best DDR2 available (IMO, of course).
I wouldn't suggest an Intel SLI board just yet, the current ones are pretty buggy (ask Weaze), go with a single-card board for that chip. If you do decide on the Intel SLI, yeah, it's the same as AMD boards. One card or two, it'll run either way. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

OK so cool here is the last question for chip sets there is the 975x comming out and then there is the 955 that is out already. The only differance that im seeing is that the 975 is for SLI and the 955 is not. is this pretty much true? or should I wait for the 975x? Also im seeing on both of these mobos they have what is called duel core? back in the day that mean 2 processors. but when i look at the pictures their is only 1 socket so what do they mean duel core? _________________ +!~Budweiser~!+ Spelt forwards and backwards

on the new dual core chips they have two individual processor cores on one chip. I would wait for the 975X because it has SLI, Crossfire, and you will be able to upgrade to the newer Presler if you want and have full capabilities. _________________ P4 3.2ghz

ok to answer all of your questions.
No your cpu is not and EE it is just a normal P4 Prescott.
It will be worth the wait to get the 975x chipset motherboard from Asus. The current 955x board is not bad but it lacks the 8-phase power circuit as well as Cross-Fire support (maybe future SLI support as well). The 8-phase power will help the cpu run a few degrees cooler and keep it stable. This is something that is very desirable for a prescott.
FnF is right you DO NOT want to get a motherboard that has the nForce 4 Intel Edition chipset. It will give you all kinds of problems and not worth the headache.
The "Dual Core" you are seeing is that the board will support a Pentium D or a Pentium EE. These are processors that have two cpus in one package. So all you see physically is one cpu but electronically you get two cpus.
For Memory I would use Corsair 5400UL or 8000UL. Or Mushkin makes some 6400 stuff that is good as well. Other one would be OCZ, but I haven't done any looking into any OCZ DDR2.
PEG LINK is something that Asus uses to improve the performance of your video card thru overclocking it thru the motherboards bios.
The motherboard that you link to at the Asus site is the one I would choose and am going to get as soon as I can. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

^^^Agreed^^^
I've heard some good things about the 5400UL corsair memory. I've got the 8000UL and it can handle anything you can throw at it, way more than my chip will take. But it is pricey, and I'm not utilizing any more than what the 5400UL could prolly handle. So I'd suggest saving the money and put it toward a nice 7800gtx. _________________ .

this has been getting good reviews on the internet, I have had this ram in my PC and it overclocks well when you up the voltage. It is also good at OCing at tight timings. It is probably the cheapest DDR2 that you will find at PC2-5600. It is also a 2 gig set. I know weazel hasn't had it too good with Patriot but I have and Hoedizzy has had it work well for them. _________________ P4 3.2ghz
