Advice time again, folks. Now that I have a paycheck, I can finally upgrade my video card from the ol' 9600 Pro.

I'm budgeting myself $250 max, that way I can do it out of one paycheck, and I won't get yelled at. I'd prefer to keep it as close to $200 as possible, but I'm leaving some room to play with. I'm open to suggestions, or a good deal on a used card.

I need AGP, I'd prefer 256mb VRAM, and it doesn't matter if it's ATI or nVidia. Just the best bang for the buck. Let the suggestions begin! I'll be buying in two weeks, give or take.

or you can get a 6600GT. For round $160 it will outperform a 9800 xt ANY day. Works with both AGP and PCI-e too.

6600GT is a great chip. Only ppl I see making a 256MB version is Palit and it's about $220. BFG makes a great 6600GT board, but has only 128MB of memory.
At 128MB of memory you can get a standard 6800 for around $200. Or maybe you can find someone selling a used 6800 or x800 style board.

I'm still poking around, but I figure I'll just get the 6600GT. Good card, loads better than what I have, and doesn't require a second PSU.

nope I actually forgot to put the PSU power connector on the board and it still whooped my 9800XT cards butt... not to mention so did the price tag. Its a great card, I only sold mine cuz I upgraded to a 7800GT. Spend the doh, now Im waiting on my 4400+ and a8n32 board. Cant wait to strap in another 7800gt for full on 16x+16x SLI

Well, I've decided, based on my budget. Going with one of these two

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCompare.asp?CompareItemList=N82E16814143027,N82E16814102618&SubCategory=48

(yes, I know it's a Newegg link, I just prefer to buy from them, good experiences)

I figure I'll probably go with the X800GT, even though it's a Sapphire............it's the best I can afford ATM, and it should beat the 6600GT for performance.

Unless somebody has a better option?
