Hello,
I have a PCI-Express Nvidia GeForce 6600 - 256MB (manufacturer: Inno3D).
Bios version: 5.43.02.61.00
I tried modifying the bios to make the Temperature Settings appear but I got the following error:
__________________________________
Identifying EEPROM...
ERROR ID(1F,G5): Unknown
ERROR: Supported EEPROM not found
__________________________________
So I got the scare of my life thinking I busted the card I had just bought.
I restarted my system and everything worked fine except that I still cannot see the "temperature settings" section.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to overclock my card without being able to closely monitor the GPU temperature. |

| I'm fairly certain that only the 6600GT cards can be modded to access the temperatures, and those of us with non-GT cards are SOL. I've done some looking into that myself (as my 250mhz oc is on the cheap stock cooler) and I've only found GT cards referenced. |

Most of the nVidia cards that actually support temperature viewing, will have it in the driver settings by default, if its not there in the first place, you probably cant view it. I would also guess its a registry alteration you have to do instead of BIOS. _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

Your flash utility is not right for your GFX card. Your card has a different rom chip to the one your app was designed for. Look for a Flash utility for your specific card, check the card manifacturers website. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Sandness is correct. The standard 6600 does not have a temperature diode. Only the 6600GT has one. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Yeah, just looked it up, seems the non GTs don't have them as they were not really intended for OCing. Your Rom error is still caused by what I said tho. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Guys... I hate to let you down or prove you wrong but 6600 cards DO have the temperature diode and enabling can only be done by modding the bios (nothing to do with the registry). I did it and now I can read my card temperature
Xal you were right when u said my flash utility is not right for my card... at least the version I was using.
You see, I was using NVFlash 5.13 which didn't support my bios.
When I tried NVFlash 5.15 it all worked like a charm !
Just thought I'd post to let you all know that you can enable the temperature monitoring... for more info google for "How to enable temperature monitoring on Nvidia GeForce 6600 cards".
Cheers |

Just a quick note... I even enabled temperature monitoring on a 6600 LE which is a lighter version of the 6600. So the diode is included on all cards but I think it is being disabled by the manufacturer to discourage people from OC`ing their cards.
Btw, I wrote to Inno3D support and they gave me the same answer. They said I cannot enable temperature monitoring on my card and that my warranty will be void if I played with the card bios.
I would advise anyone willing to give it a try to carefully read a guide before doing so. It's fairly easy but you have to be careful or you can damage the card for good.
Good luck ! |

Thought so.
Thanks for the update, I found the info about the temp diodes on another forum so I guess they were wrong..... _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Actually, we went through this a few months ago, here..........and it was referring to Asus boards. None of their 6600 series cards have the IC, not even the GT. Guess it's brand-dependent. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Huh?? What are you talking about? We were talking about his inabillity to flash his gfx bios and now he's done it. He also clames that he got the themal diode to show up... _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Yes, he did. I was correcting my earlier post that said the 6600 didn't have a temp IC. ^^^^^ up there a few posts. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Well, since this old thread is mine, I'll use it to post my updates. My upgraded system (see sig), along with nvidia 81.95 video drivers and v50 bios update increased my benchmark scores. The new drivers plus watercooling allowed me to top out my video overclock to 565MHz core and 560MHz memory- which is up from 300MHz core and 500MHz memory stock.
New scores:
Aquamark3 - 50,845
GFX 7,197
CPU 8,662
3DMark05 - 3,121
I am not really sure how I pulled off the increases. My video overclock is only up a little, and my new cpu is only 2.92GHz (down from my 3.4GHz setup). I guess the updated drivers, 1GB ram, and new chipset must make a substantial difference to overcome the drop in cpu clock speed. That, or these benchmarks are making use of the dual core- which I doubt. _________________ •Asus P5K SE •Q6700 •4GB G.Skill •BFG 512MB GeForce 8800GT

You are correct, sir.
The increased memory, better chipset, basically everything you did in your upgrade boosted your scores. The chipset had alot to do with that. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Chipset is all important in any system's performance....in your case, I'm sure the memory bandwidth increase more than offsets the loss of a few cpu clocks. _________________ .
