Well, I like summer well enough, I just hate the heat.
Started having problems soon as the ambient temp in my apartment hit 80 F, things in my case started heating up. Sluggish performance, no POST on restart 'cause the hard drives were too hot, blah blah.
Two things I know I need........a bigger, full-tower case, I just have too much crap crammed into a mid-tower........good airflow, it's just everything's too close to be cooled effectively. I'm also looking at a watercooled setup. My new landlords will be moving in in two weeks, and they've already expressed some concern over the AC in my place..........which I am NOT giving up. Second floor apartment, over a garage, with lots of windows and a huge skylight in the kitchen..........95 F outside equals 110-115 F INSIDE, even with a couple of fans running.
Any suggestions for a good, relatively inexpensive WC setup? It has to be easily adaptable, since in 6 months or less, I'll be moving to an AMD setup for my audio processing, I think. Can be a mix of different brand stuff, I'd just prefer it to be under $150, OC'ing isn't a real consideration, just more reliable cooling than purely air-cooled.
And if anyone might happen to have a used, full-tower case lying around, it doesn't have to look pretty, just has to have more room than my generic mid-tower.........I'll take it. I know the case I WANT, but it's $800 with a redundant 600w PSU. Yikes. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

best thing to do is go to frozencpu.com and look at the different options.
I dont know if you are going to be able to get a good set-up for the price you are look at. Right off the top of my head I could put a system together for you for about $200 or so. That would be using the new swiftech res and pump combo and a swiftech waterblock. And that would add up to about $140. So you would still need a radiator, which is about another 50-60 bucks for a single 120mm unit (as I wouldnt recommend a 80mm unit with the high ambient temps you are stating.) _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! Yeah summer has its downsides...on a normal hot day, my case temperature is about 7C more than usual
Time to move the PC downstairs into our cold room _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

Plz explain in post and not pm please. There are a few members here who have had geat results/sucess with frozencpu and would like to know on what basis you have to put them , or anybody, down. Welcome to TN by the way, but plz elaborate and give examples/ proof of your statement. No one wants to argue but if you'd like to DISCUSS feel free to post. |
