I haven't been paying a lot of attention to the new graphics cards ever since I built my machine and am looking to upgrade. I play flight simulator a lot and quake 4 now along with using dvd software. Anyways I am looking for something below 230 dollars that would be a significant upgrade from my ATI 9800 AIW Pro. It doesn't have to be ATI, I used to use Nvidia cards....I am just a little behind, not knowing the difference between the x800, x900, x1800, and so on and similarly the 5500, 6800, and 7800.
Can someone help me with this problem I'm having?

I testify for the 6600gt, and 7800GT THEY BOTH ROCK FOR THE MONEY. I also have a 6600GT for sale with a Zalman cooler. Ran all the new games better than my old 9800xt,

I really don't think you'll get much "significant" improvement, till you dump an extra bill, then you could put a 6800gt or x850 in. IMO.

The 7800 series is PCIx only, so it's out. Stang's 6600gt would be a nice little bump for the buck....I considered buying it.

Upping the budget a bit?

I would go for the Visiontek, for the extra cash........16 pipes instead of 12 makes a huge difference.

The 7800 series is PCIx only stang.

Here's what I just did for 2Y's new compy...well, kind of the hand me down with an attitude...piccies before the weekend.

That board makes your 8x agp slot all it can be.

Probably so...looking at your sig....you got a nice OC going, and a fair drive load already.
So most any "power" video board's going to want more juice.

What's a good power supply that has a good bang for bung and relatively quiet for under 80 dollars?

that vantec should be fine for the project you have planned.
And you aren't going to get much quality for under $80 for a psu that has more power than what you have already. If you were to bump your price up about $20 then you would be able to get into a PC power and cooling Silencer 470.

I'm up for adoption, if you're interested.

My mom says it's just fine.
