Hi everyone. Just got my X800 pro and on a sidenote, its stunning. Anyway, i was overclocking last night but when i did i returned to desktop when i rebooted, and a minute into desktop it crashed with a blue screen stop error: 0x000008E. Is this because im not raising the Vcore? Its currently on 1.65. Should i be raising it before i go a few mhz too far?

You may have just hit the limit of the board....or...maybe the limit of the PSU? Remember, as you overclock any peice of hardware the power consumption goes up, sometimes pretty quick. Therefore, your 1.65V may be actually much lower as power is "folding back." _________________ .

| yeah 1.65v is kinda low depending how far you are overclocking, i have my 2800+ @ 2.41ghz with a 13*190 i think, and i have my vcore at 1.85 |

Ok yoshida, cheers for that, do i have to slightly raise my vcore each time? Or just raise it to 1.85? My PSU is 400w. That last overclock has left me scarred and scared after the blue screen of death. _________________ AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Gigabyte S series nForce550, 256mb GeForce 7800GTX, 1gb PC6400 Geil DDR2 150 & 80gig HDD, 650W PSU |

was there any more info along with that stop code?
With the addition of new hardware along with overclocking it can be difficult to diagnos. So first step is to go back to stock clock rates and see if it does the same thing under the same conditions. If yes then we have to look at the hardware that was just added. As it might be the hardware itself or it could be the drivers for it. But if it doesn't do it, then you had yourself an unstable overclock. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

About 20 hours before the graphics card install i guess. My main suspect is the Vcore (I dont really understand about that) _________________ AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Gigabyte S series nForce550, 256mb GeForce 7800GTX, 1gb PC6400 Geil DDR2 150 & 80gig HDD, 650W PSU |

ok since it was before the gfx we can rule that out.
When you overclocked what bios settings did you change? From what to what would be very helpful.
If you need info on how to overclock there is a handy dandy guide ^^^^ up there that will help you out alot. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

I think i went to about 173*13.5 to make it 2.3. I thought that was pretty low to bugger up like that, but still ill raise the Vcore. _________________ AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Gigabyte S series nForce550, 256mb GeForce 7800GTX, 1gb PC6400 Geil DDR2 150 & 80gig HDD, 650W PSU |

well you need to start with the basics. Try your overclock and then run memtest. If memtest runs for a few hours and no errors are found then move on to Prime95 torture testing. Run that for at least 12 hours with out errors. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Im at 175*13.5 now (2.3ghz) and raised the vcore to about 1.75. Running fine it seems now. _________________ AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Gigabyte S series nForce550, 256mb GeForce 7800GTX, 1gb PC6400 Geil DDR2 150 & 80gig HDD, 650W PSU |

you still need to run the stability tests otherwise you are going to screw your OS install with an unstable OC. Trust me on this. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

I'm not sure if his board allows AGP/PCI locking..... _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Right, ive decided i MUST get this cpu overclocked, it simply isnt giving my X800 a chance to show its full potential. Do i have to raise the Vcore to something like 1.90? And stick the multiplier on 13.5 and progressively work my way up to about, im hoping, 190 mhz? That would be nice. _________________ AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, Gigabyte S series nForce550, 256mb GeForce 7800GTX, 1gb PC6400 Geil DDR2 150 & 80gig HDD, 650W PSU |

| note his ram setups 2x256 + 1x512, this could have something to do with his overclocking going gay, try just using the 2x256 |

AH, thanks for posting about the voltage... I knew I was forgetting something on my 3.6 OC. I was able to get it up there, no ram errors, but was actually slower. Bumped it up and TADA loaded windows in three short scrolls. Remember when toying with the voltages, only bump it up a little at a time until your stable. That way you dont fry it. Unless you want to fry it to have an excuse to get some new "TOYS" wink, wink, cough, hint, cough.
