So most of you know I am building some dual xeons rigs. Well one of the things that is desirable is low latency memory. I went to Fry's Electronics and purchased two kits of Patriot 2-3-3-6 memory. I got one DX system up and running. Start memtest and walk away to let it do its thing. When I came back into the room the screen was blank. I restarted the system but no boot. Took one stick out and the system boots and memtests fine. Install the other stick and no boot again. OK so I have one stick that is dead. No problem I will exchange it tomorrow. So I decide to install the other set of Patriot. System boots check the timings in the bios, 3-3-3-8! What the heck is this? So I set the timings manually, thinking "hey the first set ran it". Well upon restart it didn't boot.
This is where I decided "ok thats it" tuned down the vdimm to 2.7v and installed the 2o Hyper-X. And Bam! system boots. Go into bios and change timings to 2-2-2-5. restarts fine and runs memtest no problems! Xp installed without a hitch as well.

So long story short; PDP is never going in one of my machines again.

Nothing like good memory is there. Glad to hear it's working for you.
Unfortunately, good stuff isn't real affordable. I've had good luck with Corsair's stuff, timings per dollar.
Some of there better stuff can get pretty tight with a little help from Mr. Volta.

Hammie, yeah I know. I have heard of others having good luck with that memory. But it didnt carry over to me. So it's going to be returned tonight.

2o, that kingston works great! Thank you! I checked prices on Corsair, Kingston and OCZ. I found some OCZ with BH-5 chips for about $140 per set. Got to on order now. We will see how that stuff works out. If they have troubles I know OCZ has great service

Wow sad to hear, I've been using the stuff for over a year, it's been real nice to me. I've never have had a glitch with it. (It's also going into my next system)
