thought: the friend put it inside an enclosed cabinet... that means that there is no ventilation in the cabinet... which means he's trying to cool a hot proccessor with hot air... i think the problem has moved from being a cooling issue to being heat damage... >_<

i hope i'm wrong...

*edit* Ö brought up a good point to me... if it's a p4, it could have backed off to advoid heat damage, and that would obviouslyslow it down... but then, why would it continue to function slowly at froggers?

Exactly, I asked him where he was keeping it and when I found out I told him to take out of the cabinet immediately. After that he told me about the slow response of the comp. But then he told me it was doing it from the beginning, so I don't know which it is.
I hope it's not heat damage, it shouldn't be becasue like I said earlier, the machine runs normally before any stress is put on it. For example, right after it boots into windows, it's fine...until stress is put on the cpu. Would heat damage only affect the cpu at high cpu stress? Wouldn't it affect the cpu at all times?

It might be a damaged/faulty hard drive cable, check them for any damage. If you see anything replace it. Or heat
