The unknown node type is said to work ok. So for know we can leave it as is, since the 3rd computer is that same way.

It is strange that none of the computers can ping the others by name. The XP Home pc may be blocking the ping requests so I would worry about that. None of the computers are acting as the Master Browser.

Anything added to the registry can be removed.

Lets check to make sure the proper services are running.

Right click on My Computer and select manage.
Expand Services and Applications so you can see Services.
Click on Services.
In the right hand pain fook for Computer Browser and TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper and verify that they both have a status of running and that both have a startup type of automatic.

I was able to get a ping on computer B today, but I still cannot browse any computers. B + C can no longer browse each other.

Starting to sound like none of your computers are acting as the Master Browser, this is the computer that keeps the names and ips of all the computers.

Do you have any errors in the event viewer? Event viewer is in the Computer Management console window opened when you right click on my computer and select manage.

You want to look for any errors in general.

When you said " I tried resetting the data network setup" what exactly did you do?

I went throught the home netwrok setup wizard a few times on each computer. I was able to get B + C to browse each other again. I had to use the add a network place to make it perminate in network places. I tried this on Computer A. I entered the network path and folder and then it took some time but it would not access it. The other computers could not use this method either.

Since you are having problems with name resolution have you tried to add a network place using a computers ip address instead of the computers name?

\\192.168.0.2\SharedDocs

instead of

\\computername\SharedDocs

Just something to try.........

On machine A, go to My Computer ---->Tools----------->Folder Options, click the View tab, and uncheck Simple File Sharing.

That link will not work because

I have a FAT32 partition..

eh, it was a thought.

I was digging into it myself............seems to be an issue with being able to access a domain. XP Pro can, XP Home can't.

I found the problem... but I haven't fixed it. I think it has to do wth the netbios, but, like I said before, I am a network noob. Any suggestions to fix this would be nice...

NetBT is basically NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Verify that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled. Might try disabling it, restarting, enable it, restart.

The second method to try is 1)Uncheck "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" for your Local Area Connection (I am assuming you only have one nic and one connection listed in Network Connections). 2)Press the Ok button. 3)Restart the computer. 4)Check "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks:. 5)Press the Ok button. 6)Restart the computer. 7)Retest.

If the problem still persists check the event viewer (usually system but check application too) for any errors about NetBT or any network related errors.

Problems like this can also be solved by deleting the Connection from Network Connections and uninstalling the Network Adapter in the Device manager. Only perform this step if you are sure you have the network adaptors drivers if XP doesn't have them.

We need to verify the bindings are correct.

Open Network Connections. Select the Advanced menu then Advanced Settings...

The bindings for the Local Area Connection should look like this:

If those are correct you will need to check the event viewer for errors and search for them by eventID and source at http://www.eventid.net/search.asp.

ok... the only events that were current were 8003 MRxSmb which has to do with the master browser... my dads computer stopping my computer or wanting an election. Then there is 4226 Tcpip which has to do with the TCP\IPTCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

EventID 8003 can be solved by disabling and enabling the network adaptor, this should rebuild the connection settings.

EventID 4226 is caused by too many incomplete TCP connection attempts. P2P software can cause this as well as a virus or spyware (not saying you have any of these, just stating this error can be caused by this type of program).

I am going to setup a test network to verify something interesting I just read.

See if the disable/enable does any magic.

YYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

It works again. I tried removing and redetecting, then I went to advanced settings and disabled LMHOSTS and enabled the Netbios over TCp\IP and I did the network wizard and It worked.

Thanks for all your help guys. I would still be lost if you didn't help me.
