AVG is pretty popular around here and my question is why? As far as the free one I have heard that it only protects your system files from viruses but nothing else. I believe in "you get what you pay for" and since you can download a free version, I don't know what to think of it.
What are some reasons you guys like AVG compared to McAfee or Norton (personally I don't like Norton.) |

If you look down a bit further on the forum page, you'll see a forum for Spyware and Adware discussion. I think you'll find your answers there. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

I think you pretty much said it yourself: Its free!
Otherwise I highly recommend Panda. Its what I got my dad set up with, and he is quite computer illiterate...but is an anti-virus addict. He really likes seeing things update themselves and work the way they are supposed to. As far as I can tell, it has done everything to keep their computer clean. The version he has was marketed through Staples (w00t!), and has anti-spyware/firewall/etc built in and 24/7 phone support free. Great choice for those who qualify for senior discounts at Perkins.

I find that AVG works better than Norton or McAfee. In my own tests, AVG caught every virus I infected myself with, the other two missed a couple. That, and AVG also doesn't load you up with tons of software you don't need, so it's quick, smooth, runs in the background, and doesn't hog system resources.
Oh, and there's the fact that the latest version will run on literally any machine. Norton, for example, doesn't.............in what I think is a pretty dumb move (if you're not paying attention), Norton will sell you AntiVirus 2006, but if you happen to have a machine that still runs Win98 or ME, you can't use it.........so they give you AV 2005..........which you can buy for half the price of the 2006 version. Full retail price for outdated software? I don't think so.......... _________________ Big enough to scare you |
