Hey, so check this out, i have a weird situation...i just went with my gf's lil sister to pick up her first car. So i checked it out and everything was okay io guess....but it had a weird problem...in drive...if i floored it, it would shift into neutral. i held the shifter in drive and it wouldnt rev up at all. I told the guy that she was buying it off of, and he was like..˙up check dodge, it's a feature to keep the car from over revving" ... over revving?! WTF! if you have an automatic car and its driving fast in gear..it should gear up when it reaches its limit....but it just goes straight to neutral when its floored...anyone ever heard of this, or is it BS? _________________ P4 Northwood 2.6 HT @ 2.8 Intel 865PE

Something in the valvebody is crapped out. What did the fluid look like? What kind of car is it? If the Transmission fluid smells like burnt brakes then the transmission is gone. If the level is low then there is not enough fluid for the pump to pick up when going into passing gear. In other words...
If fluid smells burnt like brakes & looks dark brown..then tranny is burned.
If fluid level is low, then just add right amount and see what happens. _________________ Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe, AM2 4600 x2, 150GB Raptor Exteme, 7900GTX in SLI Corsair XMS DDR2 CAS3, Custom DD Water Cooling |

Yeah, that guy is feeding you a line of crap. Some cars do use a limiter, to prevent you from over-revving the motor, but those are primarily on manual-shift cars, they prevent you from downshifting into too high an RPM. In any case, they DO NOT shift the tranny into neutral. Definitely a transmission problem. Tell her to not buy the car, or if she already did, take it back.........after you have a service guy take a look at it. Most will do an inspection for $50 or so. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

yes there is a fault.
"......it's a feature to keep the engine from over revving...."???? why would it shift into neutral to keep it from over revving. That would cause what he is saying its trying to prevent.
just a few words of advice.

She'll need another $900 to get the tranny fixed before she can drive it. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Walk away from the situation, if she is so stupid to buy it, she can learn her lesson and don't help her from here on.
Trust me on this, tell her to walk away and quit being a moron. _________________ Owner & Administrator

| Well, at least you'll have the pleasure of slapping her in the face with an "I told you so" when she calls you for a ride from the side of the highway. |

does the shifter physically move into neutral? or does it just "feel" like it went into neutral? If it actually moves then there is something wrong with the valve body of the trans and will be a major repair maybe in the area of about 1200 to 2000 dollars. If the trans is just slipping it is still bad but maybe a few hundred cheaper. Either way DO NOT GET THIS CAR _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!
