the processors have arrived.
yeah I know I need to learn how to hold the camera steady
there were a few bent pins, but a little time with a needle and a pair of hemostats and all should be right. We have to wait to get the first motherboard to be able to test my pin straightening ability. :crosses fingers:
So close to be able to produce close to 2000 cands a day! _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

dedicated D2OL crunchers.
Going to be using:
Asus PC-DL Deluxe motherboards (vcore and vdimm modded) should be good for about 3.2ghz 24/7 stable @ 1.5v vcore
Cooler Master 3U heatsinks
2x256meg Mushkin low latency memory (one TN member will be familar with one set of these) 2-2-2-5 @2.8-3.0 vdimm
Will probably be using Antec Sonota cases to house these. Since I already have one of these sitting around.
They will be using a small hdd in each and old video cards. Just the basics to make em work. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

those motherboards are dual cpu. So there will be 3 dual xeons and one dual p3 forming my D2OL farm.
We will be getting the first motherboard tomorrow and I will be test fitting the cpus in the evening. I hope I got all the pins straight enough. Then I will be starting on the vMods. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

yeah but what is the cost on that?
when finished I will be able to give a cost per system on this. And I highly doubt it comes anywhere near the cost on that system FTR posted. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

I'm getting a whole new respect for you weaze.
This takes me back a few years, when Overclockers-Network was just starting to be making a BIG splash in Seti@home. OCN eventually grew a bit of fame on the internet, and even in the media. Ahhhhh! memmories!
Anyways, there was a guy called DMMD, and he started out in the same way as you are going now. The Doc had the itch to build ever more powerfull machines, most of which were absolutly incredible (and SCARY looking!), mind you he could afford it, he was brain surgeon (well, head or neurology or something). with his help and the rest of the group throwing ever incresingly overclocked CPUs at it, we managed to take a VERY high speed run at the top position in the Seti stats. felt good passing MicroSoft, SUN, IBM, and a LOT of other big names with large numbers of crunchers (sometimes thousands). we were at about position # 5 or 6 maybe higher, when Seti@home (Berkeley uni, or should that be BEZERKELEY? )decided to deliberatly slow the client software down as they were getting too many results. We left the Seti project over this as we felt it was wrong to just SLOW a client instead of adding extra crunching time (extra science) to the work units.
The technology was 3 or 4 years behind the curve, but we made it out perform ANYTHING that could be bought new at the time. I had REAL pleasure in proving an Intel engineer WRONG about what a certain Celleron CPU could actually do. He claimed that they did'nt even have a working prototype in the lab at the speed I was running (somwhere about 700+Mhz at a time when 450 / 500Mhz was the fastest clock speed available). Took a lot of BIOS screen shots and CPU tests to convince this guy it really was working at the claimed speed. heh! He told me it would not even last to the end of the year, well it still works! although I only run it at 630Mhz because the cooling was a problem (-60 / -50deg c) and costly.
Ok, I'm getting away from the point here, TweakNews is getting to be quite a well know site, I find references to it all over the place, and I'm glad to be a part of it. I just *HOPE* we can get to the point that makes a site famous for extreme information like OCN, [H]ard OCP, and all the other big names out there.
Lets get noticed for some extreme crunching, overclocking and generally "pulling one over on "the man" ". Tweak the HELL out of those CPUs, slap on some extreme cooling (I know how to power heavy duty Peltier cooling. ) and lets break some speed records.
Every person here;
Break out the pirate costumes and join the pirate fleet that is team Tweaknews
Break out the MC hammer CD and baggy pants
Break out of the........yeah, you get the point.
everyone feeling inspired yet?

All the processors were test fit last night. A couple were difficult to install but after a little pin manupilation all the cpu's now fit into their sockets easily. Trying to look at 603 little pins and make sure they are all playing nice sure does make you cross eyed. At least that step is done. Now on to volt modding this board and getting ready for the install.
Now if PC Power and Cooling would get back with me about the power supplies I want we could be in business. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

not as bad as you might think.
For the lot of them I paid $411. There have been people that have gotten these for as low as $50 a pair. But such is E-bay.
From what I am hearing the 2.4 M0 stepping is also very good for these builds. DDTUNG is in the process of changing all of his 1.6LV's to the M0's. So he is offering the 1.6's to other D2OLers but I think to his team first.
As far as total build cost for these I am guessing to be about $425 per system. I will have a better estimate after everything is said and done. So not a bad price per cand/day. And should really help the team out. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Another two sets of xeons arrived today. Which really amazed me. As DD sent them from Hong Kong earlier this week. Now to get all of these machines built. And once I do they should put Team TN into the top 5 each day. Only another 4 motherboards to order, 1 more case and psu. and what ever heatsinks I decide to use on them.
I am sorry for the delay on the build of the others. But due to work and other time consuming endeavors I haven't had time to work on these. With all luck we should be able to get going on the vdimm mod and get at least one up and running. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!
