|
|
Hey all...
Gonna help a friend test a motherboard...preferably without mounting it in the case first....so..was wondering...does the motherboard need to be "grounded" in anyway when using it outside the case?
One would assume that when securing it in a case with metal screws it is grounded....or..?

| just done do it on carpet and you should be fine, also touch a case or something metal to ground yourself because you go to work, also the best way i see to do something like this is too put the motherboard on the manufacture box, thats what a lot of people do like hardware testers and such. |

If you have the box, that is..........otherwise, you can make a "test mount" like I have. Get a piece of plywood (or nicer, solid wood if you have the cash), trace the screw holes in the mobo, and put brass standoffs in the wood. Viola'! Cheap mobo tray for testing. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

all I do for testing is use the anti-static bag. Just lay the mobo on that on the tech bench and have at it. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

This is okay, but don't confuse anti-static with static dissapative. Mobo's come in anti-static, those are fine. _________________ .
