I'm not shocked. With the cache size difference of the 600 series, plus the added security, lower power consumptio.........etc etc. They'll keep the Celeron as the low-to-mid end, and ditch the middle of the road P4. Pretty much the same thing they've always done......and I wouldn't be surprised to see an "improved" Celeron in the near future.
It's a year out, anyway. That's a long warning notice........ususally Intel just drops a bomb a few weeks ahead of time. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

I am also not surprised—especially with the growing availability of the much more mighty 800 series processors. They are in a comparable price range at slightly lower clock speed but greater features. _________________ |¤| |

not to mention they are only dropping two sku's. It's not like they dont have other processors in that same mhz range. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

^^^^ what he said.
I believe Intel's long-term plan (two years or so) is to phase out all but two or three super-high end single core procs, and a few super-low enders, and go almost completely dual-core. AMD is basically planning the same thing.
Smart move. I mean, right now you can buy a 640 with 2mb cache and 64 bit support for $215, or a 540J with no 64 bit and half the cache for the same $215. Which would you buy? _________________ Big enough to scare you |
