the black just looks better... hands down.... I actually saw one today and they are pretty nifty.

Hm.........well, it'd be sortof like choosing my new cell phone.........blue, black, graphite, silver, pink, or purple..........doesn't really matter, it's going inside a leather case to protect it.

Yeah, I don't generally use protective cases all that much. Only when I have to or not using the gadget. I just don't like to hide the gadget in the case and never see it. Seems like a wate of the designer's time.

It depends on the case you get.....many of them have the iPod thingy on the case as well.

I care less about showing off what the designer came up with, and more about protecting the $200 product I just bought. And considering the crap I dump in my pockets (I AM a drummer, after all.......so lots of little, sharp metal bits and screws) I'd keep that sucker well protected.

I really like iTunes. Being tied to that isn't a huge issue, as far as I'm concerned. Effortless playlists, AAC is one of the best formats around (FLAC is the only other one that comes close in quality), imports are flawless, and playlists are no-brainers. Plus, with a few tweaks, you can get it to play any file format available.

I don't like Apple computers, they're overpriced crap, but there's a reason the iPod is one of the best, and iTunes is one of them. Great stuff.

Itunes is horrible. In their own little attempt to stop piracy, the end user can only register a single ipod with itunes on a single computer. Once registered they cant use other itunes... so what if i want to get my music from my brothers computer. Cant. It sucks. use winamp and their easy library and playlist functions and ur set.

ya i have the Rio Carbon and its just as small in fact prolly smaler than it, mine is 5GB but the newest one is 6GB, they are cheeper and IMO look better and are better in every way, also they show up as a storage drive so you could prolly tranfer with no software but i use the software provided to tranfer anyway.

Actually, that's not true. iTunes does up to 5 computers with one iPod. And there's only one little program you need to pull stuff off of an iPod.........

That being said, I don't see a problem with the limitations. I mean, how often do you make a physical copy of a CD to leave at every computer you might use? 5 should be enough.

It doesn't bother me much, since I don't actually own an MP3 player.

That, and since iTunes is one of the few legal ways to buy music online, it's got that going for it.

PlaysForSure (DRM for MS-approved MP3 players and sites) is just as limiting, it's just not as widespread yet. Give it another six months to a year, and you'll find yourself in the same boat with your Rio or iRiver. That's why I'm not buying one yet. Rumor has it that once DRM is integrated with Windows-based music services, older MP3 players won't work anymore, at least for new stuff.

one cool thing about the rio flash players is that you can add a mini sd max about 1 gig. site says tested only upto 1gb, but possible it'll work with higher capacity.

sry for the post again, i dont hate apple personally but everywhere i look ppl have a apple product for a mp3 player. Dont get me wrong ipod is cool but i want to stand out get something different. ipod just feels like a standard now, and something different would be awesome. i personally like iriver, they have pretty good HD and flash players. anyways just my opinion

Yeah, Rio aren't bad, except they're giving up on the MP3 player market.

I'm not a real fan of Apple either, but the Ipod nano did grab my attention until all this news of lcd breakages, scratches, etc.
For now I'm just gonna stick to my Creative Zen Vision and my older Jukebox 3 (both HD based).

I have a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra, and I love it. It may be a little big, but that only makes it stand out more...

1 of my friends has a zen micro 4 gig player and that it also a very good little player. It is smaler that Ipod mini, with more features and easier to use. Another person I know has one of those little creative 128 mb player with the usb stick that pops out... I was gonna take it and use it for transeferring data but they wouldn't give it to me
