As you know (or may not), I built a computer for my cousin a couple of weeks ago. Anyways, I used a Rosewill case with its stock 400 W power supply, AIW 9800 Pro, P4 3 Ghz. He told me that while he is on the internet the computer randomly restarts. I don't understand why becasue before I gave it to him, I burned in the computer using prime 95 for 2 days straight in torture mode. I also ran memtest and everything turned out fine. I also bumped up the voltage from 2.6 to 2.7 V before I installed windows and I left it like that..
So in conclusion, I'm thinking that the power supply is not good enough. What does everyone think about this? _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

Virus or spyware, most likely. Without any more to go on than what you said, of course.......if it's just when he's on the 'net, those would be my first guesses. You DID install AVG, AdAware, and Spybot for him, right? _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Of course, but this shutdown problem happened the day I gave him the computer. I ran p95 from friday to sunday afternoon, then took it directly to his house. Then he called me two days later and said that it shut off on the night I gave it to him, which was sunday.. could spyware have gotten onto the copmuter that fast with spyblaster, adware, NAV, spybotseek and destroy, and microsoft spyware software on the computer. For some reason it just seems odd to me. _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

Ok one thing that you will need to do is turn off the "automatically restart" under the System failure section of Startup and Recovery in the Advanced Tab on System. This is listed in the control panel. This way it will give the dreaded BSOD. But by doing this it will give us an error code, which will help us find the problem. I am thinking a driver isnt playing nice. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Okay well I turned off the automatic restart and this is what came up:
A problem has been detected and a window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
BAD_POOL_CELLER
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again, follow three steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.
Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,
Press F8 to select Advanced Startup Option, and then select Safe Mode.
Technical information:
STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000cd4, 0x020a0008, 0x862118a90)
Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further.
Does this mean that there is a software problem or hardware problem? I am assuming by what it says that it is a software problem. Should I update all the drivers? _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

The first thing I would check is the BIOS revision. It needs to be this version:
http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios.php?categories=1&model=191
just to make sure it's not a BIOS problem with the 64-bit P4.
Second guess would be the PSU, yes. The proc and vid card alone are power-sappers, and Rosewill's PSU's are.......um..........well, not that good. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Correction, I installed a 450 W Antec Power supply for him last week so the only thing it could be is what you said. I never thought about the BIOS revision...could that really be a possible cause of this? _________________ ABIT IC7 MAX 3, Corsair PC4000 Pro, P4 2.6C @3.23 GHz 1:1, 2.5-4-4-7, 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 |

Very possible. Abit says the board supports the 64bit P4, but also recommends the latest BIOS. If the original is either non-64bit, or had a glitch, being one of the first available.............yeah, it could cause some P4 pukage. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
