I have 1 gig of ram. If I check 'properties' on the 'my computer' icon, some days it will state 1 gig, others 960mb...? Is this dodgy ram? I bought it from the local computer store that stated it was new and unused.
Any help would be great cheers Scott |

what kind of ram is it?
if its a no name brand ram then it might be, run memtest for about 20 hours on the machine to see if you get any memory errors. Google for it, and ask if you have any questions about it. |

Do you have a shared memory onboard video chip that is not disabled properly? _________________ Owner & Administrator

...........I hate to say it, but we tend to throw MemTest around a bit too much. It's good for some things, but not ALL things, and useless if it's not used properly. One stick at a time, for a LONG time. And that won't show you if Windows or a piece of hardware is allocating RAM for something else........
Just wanted to point that out.
It could be a couple of things. Off the top of my head, it could be onboard video or onboard sound, or a combination of both. Since that RAM is reserved for hardware use, it won't show on the System Properties.........and if you're listening to an MP3 when you check, it'll show lower RAM than you actually have installed. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

and I should point out (and I'm lazy, so I'm not deleting......) the drop you're showing is exactly 64mb, what a shared video card or sound chip would show under load. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
