A couple of weeks ago, I got a Chaintech 9CJS mobo and a P4 2.8C proc from Hammy. Delivered promply by FedEx (so props to him, too ). Tore my Shuttle board and 1.5 Willie out, put it all back together with the new board and proc..........and things went wierd.
BIOS was fine, everything set properly, so I went ahead to do a fresh Windows install. It would get so far into copying the setup files, then I'd get an error that a file wasn't copied properly. Tried for a few hours, finally gave up, figuring my XP cd was bad. Next day, I found my original CD (the other has SP2 slipstreamed), and tried again. After a few tries, I got Windows to load......finally. Started installing chipset drivers and such.........and started getting BSOD's with some wierd error I'd never seen before. Figured it must be either RAM or the HDD, so I switched drives, and took out one stick of RAM. No go.......but when I was re-doing the install, I started smelling a sortof electrical-burning smell.
POWER OFF!!!
Figured either the proc or the mobo was bad, so I put everything back together with my old parts. I went to take the 2.8c out, figured I'd pop it in my old mobo to test it.........flipped the retaining lever, and the end of the CPU socket broke off. The entire thing had fused shut on the inside, somehow. Some verrrry careful prying with a couple of small screwdrivers got the 2.8 out, no damage.............and there was no evidence of anything wrong on the outside of the socket. No burning, no discoloration, nothing.
After talking to Hammy, I called Chaintech. No reciept, so I had no proof of when it was purchased. Just told them that I had just gotten the cash together to build the new system. No problem........Tracy in Sales gave me an RMA number, told me to send it back in, don't worry about the reciept.
I also forgot to include the HSF bracket..........still no problem.
Got a call today, from Tracy again, saying that they'd gotten the mobo, and the new one was waiting to be tested thoroughly before it was sent out. The new one will be on its way to me by Wednsday of next week!
Loud applause for Chaintech........I can't wait to build up my rig, it's an awesome board. I especially like the C-Box 3 thingy, I can get rid of a few things on my desk. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

They appear to be a rather small company here......I mean, how many places can you call three times, and get the same salesperson every time? _________________ Big enough to scare you |
